FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - April 8, 2023 - PRLog -- he Old Dillard Foundation has been a long-time supporter of the African diaspora and is proud to present Melvin Dawson's play 'Soul of a Black Woman'. This original play written and directed by Melvin Dawson is an exploration of the struggles, joys, and triumphs that black women experience in modern society. Through this story, viewers will gain insight into the unique experiences of African American women and will be encouraged to learn more about them and their life experiences. The Old Dillard Foundation is committed to highlighting the beauty and power of the African diaspora and hopes that Melvin Dawson's work can help spread awareness about this important subject.
The Soul of Consciousness known as Vashti is the protagonist of the play 'Soul of a Black Woman'. She presents herself to us as we embark on a journey to explore her existence and her innermost thoughts. Through this play, we get an insight into how she views and judges her friends, only for her to come to terms with the fact that she does not really know their true character. As we follow her struggles, we witness how she learns from them and ultimately finds peace within herself.
There is an ever-present contrast of opinions as to the actual Soul of a Woman, as the play observes several Barbershop Scenes, and witnesses the conversations of men about women, and how they view the confusing epilogue betrayed by women.......from their perspective.
As a student of Vinette Carrol, Melvin has taken a page out of his mentor's book and applied it to the script where it will come to life on stage and will have the audience captivated and wanting the story to continue.
Come and explore this journey with Vashti the Soul of Consciousness for yourself. The play takes place with 3 show times on May 26th at 7pm, May 27th 3pm and 7pm at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, 2650 NW Sistrunk Blvd Fort Lauderdale, Fl. Tickets are $50.00 for VIP and $25.00 for General Seating.
