Watchdog Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association Pushes Back on California's Exorbitant Taxes

BAY AREA, Calif. - Jan. 30, 2024 - PRLog -- Verb™ Presents Speaker Series welcomes Jon Coupal, President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association ("HJTA") to discuss the Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act.  Peter Coe Verbica, CFP®, Managing Director of Silicon Private Wealth, will moderate the discussion.  California taxes are among the highest in the nation; this voter initiative, co-sponsored by HJTA, seeks to close Proposition 13 "loopholes" by preventing an end-run around the two-thirds majority requirements (i.e., via citizen-initiative based "special taxes").  The new initiative also seeks to curtail the State's practice of massive tax and fee increases on fuel and DMV registrations, respectively.  Lastly, the initiative addresses the mislabeling of initiatives used as a tool to bamboozle California voters.

According to HJTA's website, "The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association is dedicated to the protection of Proposition 13 and the advancement of taxpayers' rights, including the right to limited taxation, the right to vote on tax increases and the right of economical, equitable and efficient use of taxpayer dollars."  Mr. Coupal presides of the HJTA, reportedly 200,000 members strong.  He has appeared before the California Supreme Court, served as an attorney for the Pacific Legal Foundation, and also chairs the HJTA Foundation "which provides funding for taxpayer rights litigation and educational studies."
