CDCR Upgrades Document and Records Management Processes with Generis' CARA Platform

By: PRLog

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - June 4, 2024 - PRLog -- Generis, creator of the cloud data, content and business process management platform CARA™, announced that the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) will upgrade from Documentum-based CARA v.3 to the CARA Enterprise Cloud Platform as its electronic document and records management system for improved information governance, workflows and process management.

CDCR is the penal law enforcement agency of the state of California. The agency enhances public safety and promotes successful community reintegration through education, treatment and active participation in rehabilitative and restorative justice programs. Since 2020, CDCR has been using CARA v.3; this upgrade will enable CDCR to save costs and modernize via a move to the cloud and consolidation of a number of separate systems to a single platform. This enables collaboration and ensures compliance with government regulations and security.

"This was a strategic decision to invest in a scalable platform that has the potential to transform the way we manage all our documentation, with the information-lake aspect making it easy to find and re-use data, leading to significant improvements in efficiency and efficacy," said Edmond Blagdon, deputy director of CDCR's Integrated Business and Technology Solutions.

The upgrade provides a more efficient way to handle documentation for incarcerated individuals. The scope of the project was large, with over 60 million documents and 27,000 users. With CARA's single information lake, all data and documents are stored once, retrieved at speed with Elasticsearch and easily reusable in any process across the organization.

CDCR users are already familiar with CARA, leading to reduced change management and increased user adoption. The upgrade to a single cloud-based platform for managing all documentation streamlines the document lifecycle. By going for a single vendor approach, CDCR avoids the difficulty of managing multiple custom integrations, separate interfaces, upgrade schedules and training from different vendors. This leads to a reduction of overall costs and less disruption to users.
