About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

“It's Now or Never” on Global Warming - IPCC's Working Group III Makes Findings Public

By: 3BL Media

G&A's Sustainability Highlights (4.15.2021)

SOURCE: Governance & Accountability Institute, Inc.

DESCRIPTION:

The Sixth Assessment Report (AR65) of the United Nations Intergovernmental Report on Climate Change (IPCC) is nearing publication later this year after being delayed for two years. These assessments, as presented in the final report, are a synthesis of the thousands of comments, findings, and perspectives from literally hundreds of experts involved in the preparation. These experts from around the world, from various disciplines and organizations are assembled in designated working groups with specific charters for their work.

The last assessment from the IPCC, AR5, was issued in October 2014 and forecasted alarming impacts of climate change on our global society. With the deadline nearing for the final AR6 report release, the experts from Working Group III have released the results of their work in more than 3,000 pages. This group focuses on climate change mitigation, assessing methods for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and removing GHG from the Earth’s atmosphere.

Top headlines from Working Group III: “It’s now or never” to limit global warming, according to a report co-chair. “Without immediate and deep emissions reductions across all sectors, it will be impossible.”  The Working Group III findings also say that existing and planned fossil fuel projects are more than the planet can handle. The possible steps to reduce carbon emissions, and to capture carbon, are set out in great detail.

A note of caution in considering the findings shared:  Working Group III supports the IPCC’s overall solution-oriented approach to limiting global warming but does not advocate for specific mitigation options – it sets out “possibilities” for the public sector to consider.

The IPCC Sixth Assessment final report will contain the contributions of three Working Groups: Group I deals with the physical science basis of climate change; Group II with impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability; Group III with mitigation of climate change. The work of each group is submitted for approval to the IPPC for inclusion in the final assessment report, which is coming later this year.

In our Top Stories this week you will find news and shared perspectives related to the contributions of Working Group III to the final report. We look forward to keeping you updated on these findings and sharing the insights of the G&A team.

Training Feature from Our Friends at ISOS

Our long-time friend in the industry, ISOS Group, invites our network to join one of their monthly GRI Certified Trainings. The virtual training, taught by industry experts, includes real-world application of the GRI Standards that help translate concepts into practice. It provides examples, exercises, and advisory tools for students, consultants, and other sustainability practitioners charged with implementing the GRI Standards within various organizations. Through discussion of reporting examples, best practices, tips and tools, you will learn about practical steps you can take to incorporate the GRI Standards into their new or existing sustainability reporting process.
