About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Feinstein Institutes’ Haichao Wang Recognized by Shock Society for Sepsis Research

Haichao Wang, PhD, one of The Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research’s leading inflammation and sepsis researchers, has earned the Shock Society’s 2021 Scientific Achievement Award for his years of commitment toward sepsis research and significant contributions to the Society. The award was presented virtually to Dr. Wang at the 2021 Shock Society 44th Annual Meeting on October 15, 2021.

“It is a great honor to be recognized by the Shock Society with this award and I am particularly grateful to my contemporaries across the globe for their nomination,” said Dr. Wang, professor in the Institute of Molecular Medicine at the Feinstein Institutes. “Together, with the intersection of basic science and clinical research, we will strive to find novel and effective therapies to help prevent and treat sepsis.”

Sepsis is a life-threatening syndrome caused by a dysregulated host response to lethal infections. Dr. Wang’s research focuses on improving our understanding of the intricate molecular mechanisms that regulate the body’s immune system and inflammation, particularly through the search for proteins that control sepsis.

“Dr. Wang is a leader and pioneer in inflammation and sepsis research,” said Kevin J. Tracey, MD, president and CEO of the Feinstein Institutes. “His recognition by the Shock Society is a fitting tribute for his outstanding career.”

Dr. Wang and his lab are looking at novel therapeutic strategies – including the use of neutralizing antibodies and anti-inflammatory medicinal herbs -- for the clinical management of human inflammatory diseases.

Recently, Dr. Wang published an article in the journal Science Translational Medicine, which explored a new antibody strategy to target other less harmful proteins capable of modulating dysregulated inflammation and lethal sepsis. In a review article recently published in the journal Cells, Dr. Wang summarized his significant contributions to the research in trauma, shock, and sepsis by citing his 60 major publications. Since 1995, Dr. Wang has published more than 190 research and review articles that have been collectively cited 46,670 times by the Google Scholar.

The Shock Society was founded in 1978 to foster the integration of basic and clinical research to understand the pathogenesis of trauma, sepsis and shock, and to develop new therapeutic approaches. Since 1997, the Scientific Achievement Award was established to honor an individual who has made significant contributions to the broad field of shock research. Nominations for the award are solicited annually from the membership, and an awardee is selected by the Society’s Awards & Honors committee.

In 2020, Ping Wang, MD, the Feinstein Institutes’ chief scientific officer, was also awarded Scientific Achievement Award by the Shock Society, as was Dr. Tracey in 2016, signifying the institutional strength in relevant research fields.
