About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Member Registration Now Open for Vizient 2021 Innovative Technology Exchange

Vizient, Inc. announced today member registration is open for the 2021 Vizient Innovative Technology Exchange. The Exchange showcases the latest health care technology designed to improve patient outcomes and patient and caregiver safety, and this year it will feature a new area for products made in the U.S.A. The event will be held virtually Sept. 21-23. Register at this link: https://www.vizientexchange.com/

The Exchange connects clinical and supply chain professionals with promising new products that will potentially add an improvement to health care. During the virtual event, 38 suppliers will demonstrate their unique products and be on hand at designated times to answer attendee questions. This year the Exchange encompasses a wide array of solutions from small disposable products designed to alleviate anxieties of hospitalizations to complex diagnostic imaging and capital equipment.

“Products selected for the Exchange are designed to improve patient care or reduce the risk of harm to patients or providers, while simultaneously raising the standard of patient care and safety,” said David Gillan, senior vice president, emerging solutions and supplier engagement for Vizient. “These technologies represent unparalleled creativity from some of the most innovative companies in the health care manufacturing space.”

In addition, the event this year includes a special section spotlighting Vizient-contracted suppliers whose products are made in the U.S.A. to support health care organizations in search of domestically manufactured products.

“The COVID pandemic created new demand among health care organizations for inventory that can be sourced in the U.S. Creating greater awareness of these suppliers and their U.S.-made products is one way we can help drive greater resilience across the health care supply chain,” Gillan said.

The feedback from last year’s virtual event was positive with many attendees remarking they appreciated reviewing and discussing products with supplier representatives at their own pace. Booth hours for the Innovative Technology Exchange, including Made in the USA booths, are:

  • Sept. 21: 8 a.m.—11 a.m. CT, staffed
  • Sept. 22: noon—3 p.m. CT, staffed
  • Sept. 21-23: on demand availability

The annual Innovative Technology Exchange is part of Vizient’s Innovative Technology Program that includes product review of supplier-submitted technologies by member-led councils and task forces. Since 2003, Vizient has received over 2,800 technology submissions as part of its Innovative Technology Program. For more information, email innovativetechnology@vizientinc.com.
