About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Dr. J. Luke Wood to Be Closing Keynote Speaker for University of Phoenix Inclusive Leadership Summit and Career Fair

Preeminent advocate, researcher, and educator will lead closing session of the virtual event focused on developing leadership skills in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB)

University of Phoenix is pleased to announce J. Luke Wood, Ph.D., as the closing keynote speaker of the University’s first annual Inclusive Leadership Summit and Career Fair, April 12-15, 2022. The free, virtual event is open to the public and focused on helping participants develop diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) skills as inclusive leaders and will provide opportunities for networking connection and employment.

Wood’s closing keynote speech is titled, "Racelighting: Addressing Inauthentic Allyship," and will lead a session discussing how racelighting manifests in the daily and consistent experiences of Black people, as well as Indigenous people and other people of color. Wood explains, “Racelighting refers to the process whereby People of Color question their own thoughts and actions due to systematically delivered racialized messages that make them second guess their own lived experiences with racism.” This session will highlight the ways that racelighting is evident in the experiences of students, faculty, and staff of color. Along with Wood, presenters will also discuss strategies that can be used to reduce the impact of racelighting on people of color.

Wood is Vice President of Student Affairs & Campus Diversity and Dean’s Distinguished Professor of Education at San Diego State University. He also serves as the Co-Director of the Community College Equity Assessment Lab (CCEAL), a national research and practice center that partners with community colleges to support their capacity in advancing outcomes for underserved students of color. Wood’s research focuses on factors affecting the success of boys and men of color's education, with a specific focus on early childhood education and community colleges. He has delivered over 1,000 scholarly professional and conference presentations, and his research has been featured by prominent national media outlets.

Wood has authored over 160 publications, including more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles and 15 books. He earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership & Policy Studies with an emphasis in Higher Education, and his master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from Arizona State University (ASU).

Titled “Creating the intentional leader of today, tomorrow and beyond,” the University of Phoenix Inclusive Leadership Summit and Career Fair offers attendees access to a Career Fair as well as in-depth workshops, research presentations and choose industry-focused tracks: Leadership & Management, Healthcare and Education.
