About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

The awards include a gold award for IT Department of the Year, silver awards for Human Resources Executive of the Year and Customer Service Department of the Year, and a bronze award for Achievement in Product Innovation for the N-able® Backup solution (now Cove Data Protection).

“Empowering our customers, employees, and communities is one of our guiding principles,” said John Pagliuca, CEO, N-able. “2021 was a transformative year for N-able and we appreciate this recognition as a reflection of our commitment to excellence in delivering the highest levels of partner and employee experience through our people, products, and services.”

N-able’s gold award for IT Department of the Year was received for the IT department’s ability to spin off, revamp and rebuild a whole IT infrastructure for a brand-new public company and be fully operational within an impressive timeline of only 10 months.

The silver award for HR Executive of the Year recognizes the achievements of Kathleen Pai, chief people officer at N-able. When the opportunity arose to fundamentally change the culture at N-able during its spin-off, her leadership in creating a new culture and environment at N-able through employee engagement opportunities, career building programs, and diversity initiatives, enabled employees to feel a renewed sense of inclusion and support across departments globally.

N-able’s silver award for Customer Service Team of the Year came in recognition of N-able’s Partner Success Management team. Based on feedback from partners requesting that N-able provide more personalized support, a formalized Partner Success Management (PSM) team was created to address individual partner needs and requests. Since implementing the PSM program, the team has grown to over 90 people and customer retention is up from 84% in Q2 2021 to 89% exiting the year.

The bronze Stevie award for Achievement in Product Innovation underscores N-able’s commitment to helping partners protect and recover data. N-able Backup (now Cove Data Protection) was built cloud-first, speeding up backups and recovery, storing them off-site, out of the reach of ransomware, and eliminating the need for continual increases in data storage investment.

“My score is 9 for the Information Technology Department of the year category. N-able has done phenomenal work in a short span while separating from SolarWinds to become an independent company called N-able. Their execution of such large-scale projects in challenging times when they faced a resource crunch is commendable. Moreover, they have harnessed the best industry practices in building and integrating apps to cloud as well as building a scalable infrastructure,” commented an anonymous judge from the judging panel for the IT Department of the Year category.

The Stevie American Business Awards are the premier business awards program in the U.S. More than 3,700 nominations from organizations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year for consideration in a wide range of categories. More than 230 professionals worldwide participated in the judging process to select this year’s Stevie Award winners.

The awards will be presented to winners at a gala ceremony at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York on Monday, June 13.

“We are so pleased that we will be able to stage our first ABA awards banquet since 2019 and to celebrate, in person, the achievements of such a diverse group of organizations and individuals,” said Maggie Miller, president of the Stevie Awards.
