About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

“Reducing health disparities and improving access to quality, affordable healthcare remain among my top priorities in Congress,” said Rep. Sewell. “I applaud Vizient for bringing together healthcare leaders including those at the University of Alabama Birmingham to discuss the critical work hospitals are doing to overcome social determinant barriers and ensure that Alabamians and others across the country have the opportunity to reach their full health potential.”

Rep. Evans said, “As I continue to visit hospitals across Philadelphia, ensuring that they have the resources to reach patients outside of their four walls remains top of mind. It is imperative that the House of Representatives supports a policy agenda that addresses the challenges facing America’s healthcare system and ensures that everyone in our community has the access and resources needed to keep themselves healthy and safe.”

David Levine, MD, Vizient group senior vice president of Advanced Analytics and Data Science opened the policy discussion with an overview of the patent pending Vizient Vulnerability Index™ and shared how it is being used to help providers gain actionable insights into their community’s social needs to help target interventions and improve care delivery. He then transitioned into a moderated conversation with a highly regarded panel of key healthcare leaders including:

  • Donna Avila, BSN, RN, Director of Care Coordination, Health Equity Officer, Norman Regional Health System
  • Steven Carson, MHA, BSN, RN, Senior Vice President of Population Health, Temple University Health System
  • Verlon Salley, MHA, Vice President of Community Health Equity, University of Alabama Birmingham Health System

The panel of experts highlighted hospital strategies to reduce health disparities in their communities, including targeted healthcare screenings and education and supporting neighborhood infrastructure improvements. The panelists underscored their commitment to improving the health of patients experiencing challenges like food insecurity and homelessness, by partnering with local organizations to provide access to healthy food, housing and medical care. Each panelist reinforced their hospitals’ commitment to serving their communities, despite the ongoing workforce and financial challenges they face.

Vizient looks forward to continuing to partner with lawmakers and providers in their respective efforts to drive policies and improve the health of communities across the country.
