About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

AKIPS Enhances Industry-Leading Network Monitoring Platform with New Device Support, Custom Dashboards, and Configuration Search

Improvements Help AKIPS Identify and Solve Network Problems for Customers Faster and More Accurately Than Any Competing Solution

AKIPS, a leading provider of network monitoring solutions for enterprises across the globe, today announced several new features and enhancements to its Network Monitoring platform. With market-leading time-to-resolution and an unmatched amount of supported vendors, AKIPS is relied upon by companies worldwide to accurately deliver real-time visibility into network performance. The AKIPS platform successfully empowers teams to proactively address potential network issues before performance and user experience are impacted.

The enhancements being announced today are aimed at further improving the speed and accuracy of the platform, as well as giving customers new capabilities for searching anomalies, locating devices, and creating custom reports tailored to the needs of the individual stakeholder.

“Here at AKIPS we are dedicated to providing customers with unmatched visibility and functionality. We pride ourselves on making it as fast and easy as possible to identify and resolve issues, so your network performance doesn’t suffer,” said Michael Suvorovs, AKIPS Product Manager. “With AKIPS, customers spend less time managing the platform, and more time monitoring their networks.”

The new features being added to the AKIPS Network Monitoring platform include:

  • Custom Dashboards - AKIPS is dedicated to providing customers with the network performance information they need, when they need it, and in the format that’s most useful for them. Reports can be accessed in the office or on the go, helping customers answer questions quickly no matter their location (or what time of day it is).

Building upon that emphasis, with these enhancements AKIPS now enables customers to tailor network performance information so it is presented in the format most useful to the intended audience. For example, dashboards can be created with details relevant to particular teams, such as firewall status for the cybersecurity team, or network availability for operations managers.

  • Configuration Search - With Config Searcher, customers can easily identify any aspects of the network - devices and equipment, for example - that are not configured correctly. The tool reviews all configurations and can tell customers what isn’t correct, and most importantly, how to adjust and fix it so it is, helping to maintain positive network hygiene.

These enhancements also enable customers to input queries, either about specific types of devices or equipment, or about specific types of situations or variables, providing the information needed without a time-consuming, manual investigation process. For example, a user could ask the platform to “show all telnet devices” and then use that information to raise a ticket to have telnet access removed.

Anomalies within the network could also be searched for, making it easy to identify potential problems and repair them before they impact regular network functionality and performance.

  • Device Support - AKIPS already has the largest number of supported vendors in the industry. Over 5,800 MIBs (management information bases) across 230+ vendors encompassing 750,000 pollable objects are available to customers, providing an easy “on-ramp” for any company using the platform to quickly add and monitor a new device.

In addition, the AKIPS team does all of the integration work as a part of its regular management of the platform. When new devices enter the market, the AKIPS team reviews and adds them, helping the platform remain a turnkey solution - doing the time-consuming addition and integration work so customers don’t have to.

AKIPS is owned by network and cloud security policy automation company Tufin. For more information on how Tufin helps customers take control of their expanding security environments, please visit www.tufin.com.
