About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Tyfone Celebrates 100th Episode of Digital Banking Podcast with Industry Legend, Margarete Mucker

~ A pioneer of change, Star One Credit Union veteran shares her philosophy for driving innovation and impact ~

Digital banking provider Tyfone today announced the release of the 100th episode of its “Digital Banking Podcast.”

To celebrate this achievement, the podcast host and EVP of Evangelism at Tyfone Josh DeTar invited back one of its most popular guests, recently retired EVP of Operations from Star One Credit Union (Star One) Margarete Mucker. During the interview, DeTar and Mucker delved into the more pivotal moments of Mucker’s life story and how it shaped her approach to forming relationships with industry partners. Topics include her decision to move from Germany to the United States when she was just 18 years old and how this decision propelled her career in the financial services industry. Mucker’s commitment to innovation coupled with her philosophy of calculated, rapid decision-making yielded a successful career marked by countless industry firsts and the following industry moniker, the pioneer of digital banking.

“Taking calculated risks is integral to both personal and professional growth,” said Mucker. “Leaders who embrace risk-taking can achieve significant rewards, driving their organizations forward. This approach involves making informed decisions that, while potentially risky, are based on sound judgment and strategic thinking.”

Mucker also shared insights into her innovative work at Star One, emphasizing her drive for adopting new technologies to enhance customer service and security. Her approach often meant being the first to implement new solutions – for example, Star One was the first institution to send a transaction on the Federal Reserve’s FedNow Service, which launched in July 2023.

Each “Digital Banking Podcast” episode explores key topics facing the financial services industry. Guests include industry visionaries, practitioners and FIs – all coming together to discuss customer experience, technology and industry trends. Fun facts about the first 100 episodes of the “Digital Banking Podcast” include:

  • The first episode is “Digital Banking Pivots at the Credit Union of Colorado” with Mitch Rosenbaum, SVP of Marketing and Digital Services, and Lisa Mixon, VP of Operations, Credit Union of Colorado.
  • The most streamed podcast is “Episode 76: A Birdseye View of the Industry” with Mike Lawson, host of CUBroadcast.
  • Notable guests have included Austin Adams, former CIO at JP Morgan Chase, Ron Shevlin, consultant at Cornerstone Advisors and unfiltered truth-giver of the industry, Jay Tkachuk, Chief Digital Officer of Golden 1 Credit Union, and more.

  • There is only one two-time guest – Margarete Mucker – whose first appearance is linked here.

DeTar said, “When we launched the Digital Banking Podcast, our vision was to create an unscripted, open forum to collaborate and discuss the biggest challenges and opportunities in the financial services ecosystem. I’ve had the privilege of having long-form discussions with some unique experts from all across the world, and I’m so proud to celebrate one hundred episodes. Here’s to the next hundred episodes.”
