About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Capital Square Living Leverages SmartRent for In-House Management Transition

Work Management and Answer Automation solutions streamlined workflow and communication

SmartRent, Inc. (NYSE: SMRT) (“SmartRent” or the “Company”), the leading provider of smart communities solutions and smart operations solutions for the rental housing industry, today announced the successful rollout of SmartRent Work Management and Answer Automation with Capital Square Living, assisting with the transition of the firm’s owned assets to in-house management.

In 2023, Capital Square Living began ambitiously shifting its 14,000 owned units from third-party to in-house management, at a rate of 800-1,000 units every 30 days. To improve workflow and communication throughout its portfolio, Capital Square Living implemented SmartRent Work Management and Answer Automation at each property it brought under its management umbrella.

“The ultimate goal was to manage our owned assets, better serve our investors and do that with a more intimate, hands-on approach that fits our boutique portfolio,” said Ryan Perez, Executive Vice President of Capital Square Living. “SmartRent checked all the boxes and met our criteria, and offered true integration that allows us to maintain the integrity and accuracy of our data. SmartRent’s direct PMS integrations provide full and continuous visibility into the PMS, which is critical during our management transition.”

A recent case study highlights the collaborative partnership, smooth roll-out and implementation, and the positive impact on both operations and resident satisfaction. It also discloses the associate-driven vetting and selection process and the push from Capital Square Living maintenance technicians to retain and expand use of SmartRent technology across the portfolio.

“SmartRent solutions are designed to build efficiency into property management practices, all while elevating the standard of resident living,” said Daryl Stemm, Principal Executive Officer/Chief Financial Officer of SmartRent. “Capital Square Living’s migration to in-house management presented an opportunity to systematically select and install optimal solutions that best meet the needs of its teams and residents. Their teams already using Work Management and Answer Automation recognized the value of the solution and were eager to extend it across the company’s growing portfolio. We are honored to partner with progressive rental housing leaders that give their associates a voice, seize opportunities to improve efficiency and subsequently advance the industry’s evolution.”
