About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

NTT DATA Accelerates Global Data Center Footprint in 2024 with Bold Investments and Industry-First Innovations

NTT DATA, a global digital business and IT services leader, today announced a transformative year of global expansion and innovation within its Global Data Centers division, further accelerating its leadership in the data center industry. With more than $10 billion in capital development devoted to expanding its data center business through 2027, and rapid growth in North America, Europe and Asia, NTT Global Data Centers (GDC) is delivering critical infrastructure needed by an increasingly AI-powered world.

GDC’s expansion comes as enterprises face unprecedented demand for digital services and data processing fueled by AI and cloud computing. This surge in demand coincides with a mounting challenge of a global power grid under strain due to aging infrastructure and skyrocketing energy consumption, threatening the stability of the very systems that drive digital transformation.

“At NTT DATA, we’re laser-focused on building for the future while delivering the scalable, secure and sustainable infrastructure enterprises need today. As AI and digital transformation reshape industries, we’re investing boldly to power and accelerate this transformation,” said Doug Adams, CEO and President, Global Data Centers, NTT DATA. “This isn’t just about data centers; it’s about enabling our customers to lead with confidence in an increasingly competitive and connected world.”

Scaling for the Future: Global Data Centers in 2024

In 2024, NTT DATA further cemented its position as a global leader by expanding its footprint in key markets and delivering significant capacity in new and existing data center markets around the globe. In a rapidly evolving market shaped by the race to meet escalating enterprise capacity demands, GDC accelerated growth while delivering on its vision for the industry with key milestones that include:

  • Achieving an average annual growth rate of 20%, GDC strengthened its position as the world’s third-largest data center provider–backed by more than $10 billion in capital development to drive future expansion of its data center business in current and new markets.
  • Investing $2.9 billion including new land acquisitions across North America, EMEA and APAC to drive strategic growth and serve customer needs in key strategic regions.
  • Announced a new 68.5-acre development in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. This facility will be one of the largest data center campuses in the APAC region with approximately 290MW of capacity and will feature new technologies like direct liquid cooling.
  • Additional land acquisitions in 2024 include Berlin, Frankfurt, Chicago, and Hillsboro, Oregon, representing an expected 800+MW of capacity.
  • Expanded global capacity with 10 new data centers opened in 2024, adding 370+MW of capacity to support growing AI and cloud infrastructure needs.
  • Supported more than 200MW of AI deployments in 2024, with enterprises selecting GDC for its AI-ready data centers powered by liquid cooling systems.
  • Advanced in its commitment to building a more sustainable future with a 26% reduction in emissions and a 15% increase in renewable energy (reaching 51%) across operations in FY2023 compared to FY22.

“These milestones underscore NTT DATA’s unwavering commitment to innovation as we redefine possibilities for the digital future,” said Adams. “As we look ahead to 2025, we remain committed to our mission of empowering the world’s most innovative companies with infrastructure that fuels their continued digital transformation.”
