Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Vontier Showcases Unified Payment, Smarter Management, and Future-Focused Solutions at NACS 2025

Highlighting advancements in remote management, wetstock intelligence, productivity, and unified customer experiences across the forecourt and store

Vontier Corporation (“Vontier”) (NYSE: VNT), a global industrial technology company helping convenience retailers, fleet operators, and auto repair technicians unlock growth and improve productivity, will present a series of technology advancements at the 2025 NACS Show (Booth #S4100) in Chicago, October 14–17. Centered on four core themes – Unified Payment & Customer Experience, Remote Management, Productivity and Future of Mobility – Vontier’s brands will showcase how retailers can streamline operations, strengthen customer engagement, and prepare for an evolving multi-energy future.

“Vontier’s approach this year is about making proven technologies work harder for retailers,” said Andy Bennett, Group President of Convenience Retail at Vontier. “We’re building momentum toward a more connected, future-ready convenience experience – one that helps retailers manage today’s complexities while laying the groundwork for where mobility is headed.”

Unified Payment & Customer Experience

Vontier is debuting new advancements across its FlexPay 6 family, recognized as the only payment platform certified for both indoor and outdoor use across retailers’ sites. This certification helps lower costs for retailers while enabling a consistent consumer experience across fueling, EV charging, and car wash operations. The platform’s flexible and secure payment infrastructure supports the growing media networks designed to increase customer engagement. Retailers benefit from centralized management of media, customer prompts, and maintenance, while integration with DRB car wash automation and Passport POS systems further elevates the in-store and forecourt customer journey.

Remote Management

Remote Management is a central focus at booth #S4100, where Vontier is unveiling the Veeder-Root Device Management application on The Hub – its most significant new capability at the show. This platform enables end-to-end management of automatic tank gauge networks, including remote software deployment, backups and predictive analytics utilizing the TLS-450plus as an advanced edge device for site sensors and equipment.

Integral to the remote management suite for dispensers is the new Pump Control Node 5 (PCN5) hardware, which revolutionizes dispenser control by enabling retailers to remotely adjust fuel blend ratios, such as seasonal switches between summer and winter fuels. This capability can save multiple truck rolls per site annually. When combined with a Forecourt (Insite360) subscription, PCN5 supports cloud connectivity and allows software updates to be performed remotely with a simple press of a button. Together, these enhancements reduce the need for onsite technician visits, enable maintenance to be scheduled strategically for minimal disruption, and significantly improve system uptime and reliability.

Within this Remote Management umbrella, Wetstock Management is a critical component that helps retailers maintain precise control over their fuel inventory and compliance requirements.

A Wetstock Management subscription delivers advanced alerting and alarm management designed to detect fuel theft or tampering on the forecourt, alongside real-time visibility into tank and pump health. These capabilities support predictive maintenance and regulatory compliance, reducing operational risk.

To enhance operational insights beyond forecourt management, open APIs on The Hub enable third-party integrations, such as the collaboration with Plexor.AI, which leverages indoor sales data and analytics to combat retail shrink. Together, these tools provide retailers with centralized management and actionable intelligence to safeguard assets and optimize overall site performance.

Productivity

The Productivity theme highlights scalable solutions that decouple legacy monolithic systems and accelerate digital transformation. Vontier’s Passport Enterprise and DOMS Forecourt Automation make it easier for retailers to deploy and integrate solutions across multiple POS environments, providing centralized control, enhanced security, and operational resilience via isolated, remote-managed networks. The Smart Dispenser and iNFX Electronic Payment Server contribute to increased system uptime by simplifying upgrades and performance monitoring across forecourt hardware. Retail and POS innovations include new kiosk hardware formats supporting Passport Express Ordering and Express Lane. Additionally, software features such as TruAge age verification, digital coupons, tipping, and charity donations extend engagement opportunities beyond the pump to mobile apps and store environments.

Future of Mobility

Looking ahead to the Future of Mobility, Vontier will present the Konect 400kW EV Charger, offering a turnkey hardware and software solution that supports scalable, future-proof site electrification. New Encore Flex Fuel configurations enable compatibility with multiple fuel types, allowing retailers to offer a seamless fueling experience regardless of energy source. All these solutions work in conjunction with the FlexPay 6 platform to deliver a consistent, customer-friendly payment experience across diverse fueling modalities.

Mark Morelli, President and CEO of Vontier, said, “Every advancement we’re presenting – from remote diagnostics to unified payments – represents practical progress toward smarter, more efficient, and resilient convenience retail operations. Our mission is to enable our customers to overcome today’s challenges while positioning them for the diverse and rapidly evolving energy future.”
