About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Construction will soon begin in Franklin County, bringing ultra-fast, reliable internet to 11 cities and communities.

Lumos, a leading 100% Fiber Optic Internet and Total Home Wi-Fi service provider, today announced its expansion into Franklin County, Ohio, its fourth large-scale build in the state. This expansion will lay over 1,000 miles of fiber, providing ultra-high-speed, reliable internet to residents and businesses throughout the Columbus Metro.

Recognizing the need for improved internet access across the county, Lumos aims to meet community demand for superior connectivity, affordable pricing and a wider range of broadband choices.

"Our team has hit the ground running in Ohio, and residents have made one thing clear—they want better internet options," said Brian Stading, CEO of Lumos. "We're excited to bring industry-leading fiber technology to Franklin County, giving people better access to work, school, telemedicine, and all the online activities that keep them connected and moving forward. Our fiber internet truly changes people's lives."

Lumos will be the first fiber provider for households and businesses in portions of the Franklin County market. By installing state-of-the-art infrastructure, Lumos will deliver ultra-fast 100% Fiber Optic Internet to major cities and communities, including the City of Columbus, the City of Westerville, Blendon Township, Mifflin Township, Clinton Township, Minerva Park, Linden, Arlington Park, Bridgeview, Somerset and Argyle Park.

With no reliance on public grants, Lumos' investment is a testament to its commitment to Franklin County, paving the way for sustained economic and technological development. By expanding broadband access across the Columbus Metro, Lumos will support local workers and businesses, equip students for online learning and help families stay connected to essential online services.

“I appreciate Lumos’ continued commitment to investing in Ohio,” U.S. Senator Jon Husted stated. “They are bringing competition to not just rural counties but also to neighborhoods that have been left on the wrong side of the digital divide. Bringing Fiber to an additional 110,000 homes and businesses demonstrates confidence in our great state, a commitment to central Ohio, and I believe it will be transformative for the residents of Linden."

"This investment in Columbus' fiber optic infrastructure will further progress towards our goal of closing the digital divide," said City of Columbus Council member Nick Bankston. "An investment in our fiber is an investment in our people and will allow our city to capitalize on our ever-growing role as a tech hub in the Midwest."

Engineering work for the expansion is underway, and construction will begin in the first half of 2025. Residents will receive communication by mail once construction begins and are encouraged to follow Lumos on the social media channels linked below.
