About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

ScanSource CEO Named 2025 Channel Influencer of the Year by Channel Futures

Mike Baur honored by Channel Futures for leadership and innovation in the technology channel

Mike Baur, Chair and CEO of ScanSource, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCSC), a leading hybrid distributor connecting devices to the cloud, has been named 2025 Channel Influencer of the Year by Channel Futures. The recognition, selected by Channel Futures, honors executives who have distinguished themselves through their unwavering support of the partner community, forging deep and trusted relationships across the ecosystem.

Since 2018, the Channel Futures Channel Influencer Awards have recognized the 50 top-performing executives in the information technology and communications channel. Among the 50 executives honored, Channel Futures recognizes two influencers from the list who they consider to be the year’s most influential.

“Channel Futures is proud to recognize Mike Baur as our Influencer of the Year,” said Craig Galbraith, Channel Futures editorial director. “Under his leadership, ScanSource created its own advisory practice that could have significant ramifications for the future of the model. Of course, this could also be a lifetime achievement award, as ScanSource’s acquisition of Intelisys in 2016 has deeply shaped the technology advisor landscape for nearly a decade, with many investors following ScanSource into what was once a nascent market.”

“It is an honor to be recognized by Channel Futures as Channel Influencer of the Year and to be in the company of other successful leaders who are driving a positive impact in the technology channel,” said Baur. “At ScanSource, our goal is to help our channel partners grow their businesses by meeting the evolving technology needs of end customers. We strive to meet partners where they are, enabling them to deliver the devices, software and services that can help end customers be successful. I am proud of the hard-working and talented team of people we have, who make our partners’ success our North Star. This recognition from Channel Futures is a reflection of their commitment to the channel we serve.”

Led by an entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to fulfilling a need in the technology channel, Baur co-founded ScanSource in 1992, with a team of six people, and served as President from its inception until 2000, when he was named Chief Executive Officer. He has been a member of the Board of Directors since 1995, serving as Chair of the Board since February 2019.
