About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

“I’m excited by Specright’s traction as the leader in Specification Management and its mission-driven culture, customer base of amazing companies, and passionate employees,” Boese said. “We are still in the infancy of supply chain digitization and I look forward to scaling Specright’s impact on people and companies.”

The move builds on Specright’s recent momentum; the company now has over 5 million products on its platform and four of the top ten US retailers as customers. It was also named to the 2024 Deloitte Technology Fast 500 list, a ranking of the 500 fastest-growing technology companies in North America.

Specright’s founder, board member, and former CEO, Matthew Wright, will transition into the role of Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, where he will continue to lead industry councils and university relations, advise the Specright leadership team, and work with key customers.

“For more than a decade, we’ve been building on our mission to help people spend less time chasing data and more time making amazing things,” Wright said. “As we’ve grown, we’ve continued to evolve, and I’m excited for Mike to join Specright and help further accelerate our growth and serve our global customers, who range from Fortune 500 to top retailers and challenger brands.”

Boese is a seasoned software executive with over two decades of executive leadership working with SMB and Enterprise customers at industry-leading companies like Taleo, SAP, PeopleSoft, and Oracle as well as scaling B2B SaaS startups. Most recently, Boese was CEO of Hearsay, a company specializing in digital client engagement for financial services firms. As CEO of Hearsay Corporation, he drove substantial new growth, significantly improved customer and employee satisfaction, and expanded the company’s headcount by 50%. He also oversaw the implementation of operational best practices and robust product innovations—including AI/ML capabilities—which culminated in a successful merger with Yext (NYSE: YEXT). Prior to Hearsay, Boese served as CEO of Certent Corporation, transforming it from a niche SaaS equity management provider into a multi-pillar, international fintech solutions leader.

Mike Crowe, a Specright board member and former Colgate-Palmolive CIO, added, “As someone who has been a customer, it’s exciting to see Specright’s market momentum. This marks an exciting new chapter, with emphasis on rapid growth, international expansion, and product innovation. We’re excited to have Mike Boese onboard and believe his experience in both established and startup companies will help Specright continue to capture the large market it has created.”
