About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

MACH Alliance Unveils MACH AI Exchange to Guide Real-World AI Adoption for Enterprise Organizations

The professional peer network is inspired by a recent Alliance report which found companies that have widely implemented MACH are twice as likely to leverage AI compared to those new to MACH

The MACH Alliance, a not-for-profit industry body dedicated to advocating for open, best-in-class technology ecosystems, today unveiled the MACH AI Exchange, a professional peer network focused on guiding real-world AI implementation for enterprise companies. The program will launch at The Composable Conference 2025, the MACH Alliance’s global annual event taking place April 22-24 in Chicago.

The MACH AI Exchange launches with three founding members, leaders in their field:

  • Karl Hampson, Chief Technology Officer, Data & AI, Valtech
  • Vikas Jain, Director, US Retail & Consumer Ecosystem Portfolio, Google Cloud
  • Xun Wang, Chief Technology Officer, Bloomreach

Among organizations well along in their composable journey, 77% report using AI compared to only 36% of those new to MACH, according to the 2025 MACH Alliance Global Annual Research report, suggesting that the flexible, connected, and open foundation that MACH provides strongly correlates with AI success.

Led by the MACH Alliance, the professional peer network of technology experts will support enterprise businesses as they implement AI solutions at scale, including generative AI and agentic technologies. The MACH AI Exchange will enable rapid dissemination of technical insights, architectural patterns, and implementation methodologies that significantly reduce integration risk and accelerate deployment timelines.

“AI thrives on structured, real-time data, and enterprise architectures face heightened challenges as AI workloads dynamically scale,” said Vikas Jain, founding member and Director of Google Cloud’s U.S. Retail & Consumer Ecosystem portfolio. “The MACH AI Exchange will enable the convergence of composable principles and AI capabilities to help technical leaders establish a competitive advantage through architectural innovation.”

The peer-to-peer community is open to those implementing AI in enterprise systems, including engineers, architects, and strategists integrating AI into workflows, builders and innovators shaping AI in MACH environments, and problem solvers pushing AI forward in business technology.

“Enterprise stacks weren’t built to handle the constant innovation of the AI era, but that also doesn’t mean we need to start from scratch, either,” said Xun Wang, founding member, CTO of Bloomreach. “Just like MACH de-risks change by making technology adaptable, open, and connected, AI adoption requires the same foundation. In the MACH AI Exchange, members will share what works, what breaks, and how to de-risk AI adoption without common AI buzzwords and hype.”

The MACH AI Exchange will launch in person at The Composable Conference 2025, where MACH-certified members and end user brands can ideate, collaborate, and problem solve in real time. To participate live, register to attend the limited-space conference.
