About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Volante Technologies announces general availability of next-generation ACH payment processing solution for financial institutions

Volante now gives financial institutions a viable roadmap to replace their legacy ACH systems with a modern, extensible, scalable, and configurable solution

Volante Technologies, the global leader in Payments as a Service (PaaS), today announced the general availability of its next-generation ACH payment processing solution, available on-premises or as Payments as a Service (PaaS). This offering enables financial institutions to replace legacy ACH systems while improving processing performance, increasing adaptability, and ensuring more reliable access to funds.

Built on a proven cloud-native platform, the multi-rail solution empowers financial institutions to expand their ACH capabilities and provide a superior experience to their corporate and consumer customers. The general availability launch builds on the successful deployment of the high resiliency solution across multiple financial institutions, who are now live and processing mission-critical ACH volumes through the solution.

Volante’s ACH offering comes equipped with rich value-added services, including positive pay, smart payment routing, itemized funds control, and advanced fraud, sanctions, and FX processing for International ACH Transaction (IAT) payments. With integrated tools like returns and reversals handling and support for all critical SEC codes, the solution addresses the end-to-end lifecycle needs of modern ACH operations.

The expanded rollout is timely, as the legacy ACH systems most financial institutions rely on to process these mission-critical payments are collapsing under the weight of increasing volumes. In 2024, the ACH Network processed 33.6 billion payments, a 6.7% year-over-year increase, with total payment value reaching $86.2 trillion, up 7.6%.

This rapid payment volume growth, coupled with the phase-out of paper checks, 24/7 processing, ISO 20022 messaging, and the inability to keep up with ongoing compliance and customer requirements, is pressuring banks to modernize their ACH systems. To stay competitive, financial institutions must be able to handle higher volumes, offer interoperability with different payment types, and deliver new ACH services faster. In contrast to numerous legacy systems, Volante’s ACH processing technology is the first solution to address all these demands, providing banks with a clear pathway to replacing legacy systems.

“There has never been a viable, market-wide option to replace incumbent ACH systems until now. Financial institutions with legacy systems cannot effectively deliver new ACH value-added services because they are not designed to quickly deploy new features. Our solution is modern and extensible, interoperable with other payment systems, and can serve as an engine of growth and profitability for banks, rather than a drag on their business,” said Deepak Gupta, EVP, Product, Engineering & Services, Volante Technologies.

Financial institutions can easily and quickly be onboarded to Volante’s ACH offering with predefined integrations and a migration plan that moves them from legacy ACH to a modern solution with minimal customer impact or internal complexity. It enables banks to handle increasing volumes with resiliency and security and harness the power of an ISO 20022-based data model to enable seamless interoperability across payment types.

Further, Volante’s platform is natively multi-rail, granting financial institutions the flexibility to control their roadmap by seamlessly integrating additional payment rails over time. The solution’s unified interface reduces training costs, onboarding time, and enhances productivity for operations teams. Overall, financial institutions can manage more transactions and larger payment files at a lower cost and with the highest straight-through processing (STP) rates.

“This solution improves margins and gives banks the flexibility to offer more competitive pricing while reinvesting in internal innovation. It’s just the beginning of what we’re delivering to accelerate payments modernization,” continued Gupta. “With seven of the top 10 U.S. banks already relying on our solutions, we’re committed to continuous innovation that empowers our customers to stay competitive, agile, and ready for the future.”
