About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

phoenixNAP Advances Cloud Services Using HPE Disaggregated Data Center Modular Hardware System Servers with Intel Xeon 6

  • New modular, secure, scalable, and pluggable server designs enable the expansion and advancement of multi-tenant facilities worldwide.
  • Adopting HPE’s first disaggregated computing hardware solution, HPE ProLiant Compute DL320 Gen12 server, provides the ability to rapidly and securely meet evolving customer expectations.
  • High density E-cores in Intel Xeon 6700 series processors deliver greater performance per watt.

phoenixNAP, a global IT services provider, is accelerating its business growth and time-to-market for its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platforms with servers from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (NYSE: HPE). The servers, which include the latest Intel Xeon 6 processors, represent HPE’s first disaggregated computing hardware that conforms to the Data Center Modular Hardware System (DC-MHS) design specification developed by the Open Compute Project (OCP) community.

To meet the speed and agility demands of the cloud-native, on-premise, and Software as a Service (SaaS) development customers phoenixNAP serves in advertising technology (AdTech), financial technology (FinTech), and state, local, and education (SLED) sectors, the IaaS provider is leveraging HPE ProLiant Compute DL320 Gen12 servers. This adoption enables phoenixNAP to shift from its traditional monolithic server architecture to modular, scalable, and pluggable designs across its 18 global data centers, allowing for expansion of its multi-tenant facilities worldwide.

Modular building blocks and an expansive sourcing network

phoenixNAP was HPE’s first DC-MHS server customer, equipping the service provider with reusable building blocks across multiple designs for multiple markets. The disaggregated servers enable interoperability across the data center by providing consistent interfaces and form factors engineered for security from silicon to software. phoenixNAP's IaaS platform enables faster product introductions by minimizing the need for ground-up custom designs, as well as lowering total cost of ownership due to modular innovations and sourcing across HPE’s expansive partner ecosystem.

“Service providers are investing in next-generation infrastructure to address evolving enterprise IT requirements across new workload demands, heightened security concerns, and flexibility needs as businesses scale or change,” said Peter Groth, vice president, general manager, CTO of Service Providers at HPE. “phoenixNAP is on the leading edge of delivering modernized, advanced solutions and we are thrilled to continue our partnership to power its cloud services. By leveraging the new HPE ProLiant Gen12 servers that deliver next-level security, performance and efficiency, phoenixNAP is offering its customers a trusted, scalable and versatile solution to fuel a new era of innovation.”

Delivering on brand promises

By offering progressive IaaS solutions focused on cybersecurity and compliance-readiness, phoenixNAP is committed to enabling every type of company to effortlessly and reliably gain high-performance, always-available infrastructure with cloud-like ease and simplicity, bringing apps and workloads closer to their teams and users. Through its partnership with HPE, phoenixNAP not only obtains leading-edge solutions, but also the technical assistance needed for automating more and troubleshooting less, ensuring that the company’s IT team can deliver superior service to every customer.

“Our customers expect us to enable their businesses to securely scale rapidly and everywhere, which depends upon our ability to easily build, scale, and maintain our platforms,” said William Bell, executive vice president of products at phoenixNAP. “The HPE ProLiant Compute DL320 Gen12 servers combine high performance with low power utilization and secure modularity, which not only helps us meet swiftly evolving customer needs but also conserves energy, which is becoming an increasingly valuable resource.”

E-cores for higher performance per watt

In February, HPE introduced its HPE ProLiant Compute Gen12 portfolio that is optimized for customers seeking high performance and efficiency to power their ever-increasing workloads. HPE ProLiant Compute servers, including the ProLiant DL320 Gen12, also feature Intel Xeon 6700 series processors that provide a new class of efficient-cores (E-cores) with higher throughput for workloads in locations where power, space, and cooling are limited. Providing up to 144 E-cores per socket, Intel Xeon 6 supplies up to one-and-a-half times the performance per watt versus 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors.1

As an IaaS provider, phoenixNAP is also an HPE Partner Ready Vantage partner, which supports IT service providers with tools, training, and resources to successfully deliver value to their customers.
