About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Two Zehl & Associates Cases Recognized Among Top Texas Verdicts for 2024 by ALM VerdictSearch

$37.5 million and $35 million truck accident recoveries ranked in three categories

Zehl & Associates is being recognized by the ALM publication VerdictSearch for earning two of the largest truck accident settlements in Texas for the firm’s clients in 2024.

The first of these cases – Baldish Kaur, et al. v. Oncor Electric Delivery Company NTU LLC, et al. – was settled in April 2024 for $37.5 million and is ranked third under the motor vehicle category for Texas.

The case involved Shamsher Singh, a truck driver who was killed after an Oncor service truck slammed into his 18-wheeler, which was disabled on the shoulder of I-635 West in Dallas. Mr. Singh was outside the vehicle, inspecting it at the time of the crash, and evidence at trial showed that the Oncor driver was distracted behind the wheel when the collision occurred.

The second case – Rosendo Longoria, et al. vs. The Ben E. Keith Company, et al. – is ranked among the top three verdicts in the categories of transportation and workplace negligence and was settled in December 2024 for $35 million.

The case involved Susana Longoria, a Fort Worth, Texas, woman who was killed in September 2023 when a truck driver working for the Texas-based Ben E. Keith Company collided with her vehicle, which was parked on the left shoulder of I-35 in Fort Worth after being involved in a minor crash.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, Larry Czaplinski, was traveling in the left lane of the interstate despite “No Trucks in Left Lane” signs posted along the route. The Zehl & Associates team and its expert investigators also found that Mr. Czaplinski was using an app on his phone at the time of the accident and never applied his brakes before the crash.

“In cases like these, you are meeting people at some of the worst points in their lives, be it from life-altering injury or the loss of a loved one,” said Zehl & Associates founding partner Ryan Zehl. “Our truck accident lawyers set out to get justice against one of the largest food and beverage distributors in the country, a company that could have potentially walked away without any repercussions, and that’s exactly what we did.”

Since the firm’s inception roughly two decades ago, the Zehl & Associates team of trial attorneys has amassed an impressive record of success, drawing national recognition from prominent legal guides, publications, and “best of” lists. These include, among others, The Best Lawyers in America, Texas Super Lawyers, Lawdragon, American Lawyer, and Law360.

The case, Baldish Kaur, et al. v. Oncor Electric Delivery Company NTU LLC, et al., was heard in the 160th Civil District Court of Dallas County. The case number is DC-21-12096.

The case, Rosendo Longoria, et al. vs. Ben E. Keith Company, et al., was heard in the 17th District Court of Tarrant County, Texas. The case number is 017-347163-23.
