About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

MITER Foundation, the charitable arm of MITER Brands, a residential window and door manufacturer, recently announced a $200,000 donation commitment to the new Ronald McDonald House in Tampa. The donation will take place over the course of five years, with gifting of $40,000 annually.

The opportunity to support the organization was proposed to the MITER Foundation and championed by Steve Rehman, long-time team member of MITER Brands and member of the MITER Foundation board. Rehman has personally supported the Ronald McDonald House Charities for several years and is passionate about the vital assistance the organization provides to families of children who are undergoing life-saving medical treatment.

“Ronald McDonald Houses provide such an incredibly warm and welcoming haven for families in need,” said Rehman. “Staying at one of their houses feels like being at your grandmother's – where you are provided with the thoughtful attention you’d find at a Ritz Carlton combined with the soothing environment and temporary escape you feel at Disney. I am honored to contribute to the efforts of Ronald McDonald House Charities in both Tampa and Baltimore, and I encourage everyone to consider volunteering at their local Ronald McDonald House to make a meaningful impact in their communities.”

The new 10,100-square-foot Ronald McDonald House is located on the fourth floor of St. Joseph's Women's Hospital in Tampa, less than 100 steps away from the neonatal intensive care unit. Featuring 11 bedrooms with private bathrooms, full kitchen and dining area, study area for remote work, parent’s lounge, laundry center, playroom, and fitness and well-being center, the house is designed to accommodate patients and their families for a few days, weeks, or months.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 7 to commemorate the opening. Several team members from the MITER Foundation attended the event, including Rehman.

“We are delighted to unveil our new House at St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, a milestone that underscores our dedication to providing a supportive environment for families during their most challenging times,” said Lisa Suprenand, CEO, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Tampa Bay. “We are especially grateful to the MITER Foundation for their extraordinary $200,000 gift, which played a pivotal role in turning this vision into a reality. Their generosity will have a lasting impact on the lives of countless families.”

The MITER Foundation has supported Ronald McDonald Charities since 2019 through various efforts. To date, the charitable arm of MITER Brands has donated over $408,000 to Ronald McDonald Charities. Outside of monetary donations, MITER Brands team members have volunteered to make food at other Ronald McDonald houses, as well as assisted at fundraising events, including golf outings and auctions.

Since the MITER Foundation’s inception in 2015, the organization has expanded from helping local charities to a nationwide presence, partnering with organizations to drive the MITER Brands people-first culture in communities throughout the country.

“We’re proud to foster a culture of care, with children’s well-being at the heart of our mission,” said Gwen Mallon, MITER Foundation Specialist. “Supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities is especially meaningful to us as several MITER Brands team members have personally benefited from their support. It’s an honor to give back to an organization that gives so much to families in need.”
