About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

ISN® Enhances Contractor Search & Source Feature with AI-Powered Tools

By: via Business Wire

New contractor sourcing capabilities released within ISNetworld®, leveraging AI, smart suggestions, and interactive mapping

ISN, the global leader in contractor and supplier information management, introduced enhancements to the contractor searching and sourcing experience within ISNetworld. Designed from the ground up with AI capabilities and end-user input, the upgraded experience provides Hiring Clients a more intuitive and efficient way to find, evaluate, and engage with ISN’s network of 85,000 active contractors and suppliers.

From AI-powered ISN SmartSource suggestions to a dynamic interactive map, these updates simplify the contractor sourcing process while unlocking powerful insights. With tens of thousands of searches for contractors conducted since launch, the updated platform is already reshaping how ISN Hiring Clients connect with qualified contractors across industries.

Adam Logan, Executive Vice President of Application Engineering and Data Sciences at ISN, emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of Hiring Clients. “Our enhanced search and source experience, powered by AI and user-centric design, offers a faster and more intelligent way for Hiring Clients to identify ideal partners for their projects.”

The redesigned Contractor Search and Source experience empowers Hiring Clients to conduct searches using natural language phrases or keywords, such as “electrician in Mobile, Alabama,” allowing for more intuitive interaction with the platform. Additionally, ISN's AI-powered SmartSource suggestions engine recommends contractors based on profile similarities, industry relevance, and connections to similar Hiring Clients. An interactive map adds a new dimension to the experience by allowing users to visualize contractor locations, zoom in and out of specific areas, and refine searches by geographic proximity preference.

“I have found ISN’s enhanced Contractor Search and Source experience to be incredibly useful,” said Shane Goslin, Procurement Manager at Trinity Industries. “Thanks to the tool, Trinity Industries has added several new companies to our contractor list, reducing administrative time and effort finding a qualified contractor.”

Hiring Clients can access recently viewed contractors directly from the Welcome page, bookmark preferred companies for easy comparison, and use sorting and filtering options to refine results based on precise criteria, helping users surface the best matches quickly. These personalized enhancements, developed with input from over 1,200 users, reflect ISN’s ongoing commitment to deliver superior user experience to its 850 Hiring Clients.

Additional platform enhancements, including a redesigned contractor scorecard, improved AI-assisted contractor search capabilities, and expanded mapping functionality, are currently underway to further elevate the user experience for ISNetworld customers.
