About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Lumos Expands Across Ohio, Bringing 100% Fiber Optic Internet to Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties

With its fifth expansion into the state, Lumos will deliver ultra-fast, reliable fiber internet to more than 226K homes, small businesses, and multifamily communities.

Lumos, a leading 100% Fiber Optic Internet provider and network infrastructure leader, today announced its fifth large-scale expansion in Ohio, bringing ultra-fast fiber internet to Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties. As part of this initiative, Lumos will build nearly 3,000 miles of new fiber infrastructure, delivering fast, reliable connectivity to homes, small businesses, and multifamily communities across the region.

Lumos, now part of T-Mobile Fiber, is expanding its fiber network to more than 226,000 addresses across 27 cities and communities, including Lorain, Elyria, City of Amherst, Amherst Township, Avon, Avon Lake, Lyndhurst, South Euclid, Mayfield Heights, and Cleveland Heights. The network will provide service to consumers and businesses via T-Mobile Fiber, in addition to large businesses and bulk MDU complexes which will be under the Lumos brand.

Lumos’s fiber network, used to power T-Mobile Fiber’s residential internet service, brings advanced fiber optic technology to areas built to support remote work, online learning, telehealth, and the digital tools families and businesses rely on every day.

Where the Lumos Fiber network is live today, residents can sign up with T-Mobile Fiber with plans starting at just $55/month for 500 Mbps with Fiber AutoPay and a T-Mobile voice line. All plans include unlimited data, ultra-fast symmetrical upload and download speeds, T-Mobile Tuesdays and a 5-year price guarantee (exclusions like taxes and fees apply). There are no monthly equipment fees, installation charges or annual contracts. For more details and to learn when T-Mobile Fiber is arriving in their neighborhood, residents can visit https://www.fiber.t-mobile.com.

“At Lumos, we’re redefining what it means to be connected by bringing fast, reliable internet to communities across Ohio, not just the big cities. Everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive in today’s digital world, whether they live in a small town or a larger metro. With our network coming soon to Lorain and Cuyahoga counties, families can tap into online learning, telehealth, remote work, and more without skipping a beat,” said Lumos CEO Brian Stading.

In many of these communities, Lumos is delivering a direct fiber network for the first time—unlocking another level of speed and reliability for households and businesses. By introducing broadband competition and replacing outdated infrastructure, Lumos will help boost local economies, supporting small businesses, attracting new investment, and creating a foundation for long-term community growth.

Local leaders underscored the importance of future-ready infrastructure:

“As the City of Elyria continues to grow, we are delighted to have Lumos build high speed, state of the art fiber optic internet in our community," said Elyria Mayor Kevin Brubaker. "We appreciate their investment so that our residents and small businesses can rely on improved connectivity to essential education, health care, commerce, and entertainment services."

“In Lyndhurst we are enthusiastic supporters of infrastructure upgrades that expand the availability of high-speed broadband for our residents. We are excited about the Lumos investment that will be made in our city,” said Lyndhurst Mayor Patrick Ward. “This project will assure our residents have access to reliable connectivity options offering the highest speeds which will strengthen our community for residents of all ages and lifestyles.”

“There is still great demand for an affordable, reliable, high-speed fiber connection in many of our diverse neighborhoods," said Maple Heights Mayor Annette Blackwell. "This increase of options provided by companies like Lumos in a competitive marketplace assures we can meet our current and future digital demands while serving all geographic areas of Maple Heights.”

Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2025. To learn more about the build process, visit www.lumosfiber.com/new-construction. Residents can check availability and sign up for updates as the network rolls out by visiting www.fiber.t-mobile.com.
