About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

NineDot Energy Selected as One of Crain’s 2025 Best Places to Work in New York City

NineDot makes the list for the second time, reflecting a commitment to workplace culture and community impact

NineDot Energy®, the leading developer of community-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) in the New York City metro area, today announced its selection as one of Crain’s 2025 Best Places to Work in NYC for the second time.

NineDot Energy Selected as a Crain's 2025 Best Places to Work in NYC Company

It’s an honor to make the list again,” said David Arfin, NineDot Energy CEO and Co-founder. “For us, being selected reflects our deep commitment to building a company culture of meaning, impact and inclusion, and we’re proud of the team we’ve created and the work we do. As Crain’s noted, ‘serious investment in people fuels long-term performance’. With volunteer days and employee stock options, scavenger hunts and 100% paid parental leave, we’ve invested in our employees’ health, wellness and growth from day one.”

The selection process for the Crain’s list is rigorous: a company needs to complete a lengthy application and self-evaluation, and the employees need to complete a fully anonymous extensive engagement survey seeking information about their work and workplace culture, including professional development, work-life balance and benefits. Only then does Crain’s select those companies that make the annual list, in collaboration with the Workforce Research Group.

Fred Polirer, NineDot’s Vice President People and Culture, said “We’re honored to be included on this list again and want to thank Crain’s for recognizing the quality of our team, our culture and our work. When we first applied in 2023, we were a startup with 30 employees. We’ve grown substantially since then, and today have 80 full-time members of our team, so we decided to apply again. Beyond the validation from a respected third-party, what makes this award extra special is that a critical element of being selected was what this larger group of employees said about us. They voiced how they feel about the work they do, the people they work with, and the work environment of NineDot overall. We're proud to have such a strong, engaged and dedicated team executing our mission.”

This is the second workplace award NineDot received this year. In May, NineDot’s People Operations team was recognized as the winner of the New York Battery Energy Storage Technology Consortium’s initial Inclusive Energy Storage Workforce award for its leadership in building an inclusive clean energy workplace. Through initiatives such as equitable hiring practices, cultural heritage celebrations, innovative social programming, and strategic internships, the company has embedded inclusive practices in a variety of ways throughout its daily operations. All these initiatives directly support NineDot’s business, with seven operating projects at four locations in Staten Island and The Bronx totaling 26MW currently, and a goal of having 400MW of battery storage in development, construction or operation by the end of 2026.

NineDot is grateful to its extraordinary employees, dedicated partners, engaged and supportive communities, agencies, regulators, investors and financiers who provide the ecosystem that allows us to do such meaningful work.
