About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Elisity Named a Cool Vendor™ in the Gartner® Cool Vendors™ in Cyber-Physical Systems Security 2025

We believe Elisity’s identity-based microsegmentation platform is recognized for enabling rapid Zero Trust implementation without hardware, agents, or network downtime

Elisity, the pioneer in identity-based microsegmentation, today announced it has been named a Cool Vendor in the 2025 Gartner Cool Vendors in Cyber-Physical Systems Security report by analyst Katell Thielemann.

According to the report, “The field of CPS security is evolving from a network-centric, reactive model focused on firewalls and prevention to a more mature discipline centered on proactive defense, asset-centric protection, and rapid recovery.”

“In our opinion, being recognized as a Cool Vendor validates our mission to make microsegmentation accessible to organizations that have historically struggled with complex, disruptive implementations,” said James Winebrenner, CEO of Elisity. “Our identity-based approach transforms network segmentation from a years-long infrastructure project into a solution that can be deployed in weeks without downtime. We feel, this recognition comes at a critical time when organizations across manufacturing, healthcare, and industrial sectors are mandated to implement network segmentation for regulatory compliance and cyber resilience.”

The Gartner report further notes that “To mitigate risks from remote access and lateral movement, cybersecurity leaders should deploy solutions that enforce granular, least-privilege access policies for all users, workloads, and devices. This includes leveraging technologies for microsegmentation and secure remote access that isolate sessions and control communication pathways.”

“Elisity is changing the game in microsegmentation because it’s moving away from the traditional agent-based approaches and manual processes that just don’t work at scale,” said Max Everett, CISO at Shaw Industries. “It’s doing things the way we need to do them to be successful in security — with real-time microsegmentation policy enforcement at the network level. I’m glad to see them getting the industry attention they deserve for actually solving problems that traditional vendors have struggled with for years.”

Elisity’s microsegmentation platform addresses the critical challenge facing cybersecurity leaders in large enterprises: preventing lateral movement attacks that enable ransomware spread, data exfiltration, and operational disruption from compromised critical systems while maintaining operational continuity. The platform rapidly discovers every user, workload, and device on enterprise networks and correlates comprehensive insights into the Elisity IdentityGraph™. This empowers security teams with the context needed to automate classification and apply dynamic security policies to any device wherever and whenever it appears on the network.

The platform’s agentless architecture leverages existing switching infrastructure for policy enforcement, eliminating the need for new hardware, agents, VLANs, or complex ACLs. Organizations can implement comprehensive microsegmentation across IT, IoT, OT, and IoMT environments while respecting the sensitive and highly available nature of cyber-physical systems. Integration with existing security tech stacks via APIs correlates data from all available sources to enable more flexible and dynamic security policies.

Elisity has also enhanced its professional development offerings through the Elisity Academy, which experienced rapid adoption with several hundred certifications issued in 2025. The program now serves enterprise customers and partner solution architects with comprehensive training and certification programs. Building on the success of the Elisity Certified Policy Administrator certification, the company recently introduced the new Elisity Certified Deployment Administrator certification, designed to equip participants with core skills for deploying the Elisity platform across diverse network environments, including deployment models, Elisity Virtual Edge configuration, and operational workflows for distributed implementations through on-demand video training and lab deployment demonstrations.

Elisity was also recognized in the Gartner Hype Cycle™ for Enterprise Networking, 2025 and a Representative Vendor in the 2025 Market Guide for Network Security Microsegmentation. Elisity was also recognized in the Forrester Wave™ Microsegmentation Solutions Q3 2024 evaluation as a “Strong Performer,” investments from Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV) and Chevron Technology Ventures (CTV), and customer Main Line Health receiving both the 2024 CSO Award and 2025 CIO 100 Award for cybersecurity excellence. The company expanded its customer base to include several Fortune 500 companies, with 83% successfully implementing critical security policies across their entire infrastructure within 90 days.
