About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

IRI Expands FieldShield Capabilities for Structured Data Discovery and Masking

Innovative Routines International (IRI), The CoSort Company, has achieved a significant milestone with the enhancement of its FieldShield tool, recognized by Database Trends and Applications Magazine as a trend-setting product for 2025.

-- Founded in 1978 and serving customers in 40 cities globally, IRI continues to lead in the data management landscape. The FieldShield software, known for its robust data masking and management capabilities, is part of the IRI Data Protector suite and IRI Voracity platform. It focuses on efficient data management and stringent data-centric protection, including PII/PHI classification, discovery, and de-identification.

The upgraded FieldShield version introduces advanced features to further support data breach mitigation, test data management, and compliance with privacy regulations. Key enhancements include extended file coverage and integration with cloud storage solutions like Amazon S3, Azure Blob, and Google Cloud Platform, thus broadening the scope of data security applications.

Significant improvements in data classification and discovery have been implemented through an upgraded IRI Workbench GUI, which simplifies data labeling and enhances support for compliance with various privacy laws. Additionally, the integration of the DarkShield API allows FieldShield to effectively manage PII within semi-structured and unstructured data sources.

"The enhanced capabilities of FieldShield address critical needs in data security and compliance, providing businesses with the tools required to protect sensitive information effectively," stated an IRI spokesperson. "Our commitment to advancing data masking technology ensures that our clients can confidently meet the challenges of managing and securing data in a complex regulatory environment."

The PII dashboard in FieldShield offers sophisticated HTML5 charts that give comprehensive insights into data sources, classifications, and processing times, enhancing the management of sensitive data. Expanded masking rules include advanced obfuscation methods such as smart email and NID generators, adding both deterministic and non-deterministic options to the data masking capabilities.

FieldShield remains unique in supporting advanced business logic, re-ID risk scoring, and extensive data profiling and anonymization features suitable for RDB test environments. By leveraging additional IRI products like DarkShield for unstructured data, RowGen for data synthesis, and CoSort for data integration and cleansing, users gain a versatile tool adaptable to numerous data masking scenarios.

As recognized by DBTA Magazine, FieldShield continues to set trends in the data management field, confirming IRI's role as a pivotal player in the development of sophisticated test data tools and management solutions.
