About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Health Advocacy Tools To Prevent Vaccine Stockouts In Kenya: Podcast Released

Global Health Advocacy Incubator's new podcast episode examines Kenya's April 2025 vaccine stockouts across 12 counties and highlights policy options to prevent future disruptions.

-- The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI) has released its latest podcast episode, analyzing Kenya's recent vaccine shortages and the systemic gaps that placed routine childhood immunizations at risk. The April 2025 stockouts affected 12 counties and forced some families to travel across borders to secure essential vaccines for their children.

The full podcast is available at https://www.advocacyincubator.org/one-shot-long-life/episode-6-reversing-kenyas-vaccine-stockouts

The episode, part of the "One Shot, Long Life!" series, features in-depth interviews with Hon. James Nyikal, a physician and member of Parliament's Health Committee, and Faith Ndungu from the Health NGOs Network (HENNET). Host Abel Akara Ticha guides the discussion on procurement delays, funding shortfalls, and structural vulnerabilities that contributed to the supply crisis.

Guests recount the realities on the ground, including healthcare workers who were unable to provide routine vaccines and parents who crossed into Uganda to immunize their children. Experts warn that prolonged shortages risk triggering outbreaks of measles, polio, and other preventable diseases, undermining Kenya’s immunization gains.

The conversation also explores Kenya's transition away from support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, which is scheduled to end in 2029. Financing alternatives such as social health insurance models are examined, alongside legislative measures proposed by Hon. Nyikal to ensure stable vaccine procurement. Ndungu highlights recent advocacy successes, including the Kenya Women's Parliamentary Association's role in securing co-financing payments for vaccines.

Despite these challenges, Kenya maintains national immunization coverage above 80% as of May 2025, according to Ministry of Health data. The country has also advanced efforts in local vaccine production through the Kenya Bio-Vaccines Institute, a partnership with the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), aimed at strengthening long-term supply chain resilience.

The podcast episode provides actionable recommendations for policymakers and health advocates seeking to reinforce immunization systems across Africa.
