About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Is Sugary Coffee Unhealthy? Expert: You Can Add a Teaspoon of Sugar

By: MerxWire

Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages. Do you like coffee with sugar? Adding a teaspoon of sugar to your coffee will not affect its health benefits. But adding too much sugar can be harmful to your health.

New York, NY (Merxwire) – Coffee is the world’s most popular beverage, with many people requiring one or more cups daily. However, given that overeating sugar is harmful to health, many people are afraid to add sugar to coffee. But did you know that coffee with sugar has no impact on health? As long as you add it in moderation, 1 to 3 cups a day is no problem.

Research shows that coffee, with or without sugar, has health benefits. Researchers spent seven years studying the coffee-drinking habits and physical health of more than 170,000 healthy people. They found that people who drank coffee every day (with or without added sugar) were 30% less likely to die during the study period than people who didn’t drink coffee and that those who consumed 1.5 to 3.5 cups a day were significantly healthier. This article appears in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

According to 2022 estimates, Americans drink 5.17 cups of coffee per day, with more than 60% of Americans drinking coffee daily. Coffee has long been considered to have health benefits, and drinking in small to moderate amounts may provide energy, increase alertness, and improve concentration. Other previous studies have shown that drinking coffee can reduce the risk of stroke, heart disease, and certain cancers. Taking the above arguments into consideration, drinking coffee has many benefits and is a drink that is beneficial to health.

While studies show that moderate consumption of unsweetened and sweetened coffee is associated with a lower risk of death, added sugar does not provide additional health protection. Therefore, whether to add sugar or not is not an important point, but how much sugar is added is what everyone should pay attention to.

The World Health Organization recommends that adults and children should consume no more than 25 grams of sugar per day or less than five teaspoons. However, among the participants in this study, those who drank sweetened coffee only added an average of one teaspoon of sugar. Researchers believe that the benefits of coffee are preserved with a teaspoon of sugar, but added sugar does not provide additional health protection and can even lead to a variety of health problems caused by consuming too much sugar (not just sugar in coffee)—the risk of chronic disease and premature death.

It’s not that you can’t eat sugar, just in moderation. Modern people eat exquisitely and often eat out, and their sugar intake in three meals a day may unknowingly exceed the standard. It is recommended that in addition to controlling the desire for sugar intake, one should also develop a good habit of observing food ingredients. If you are not used to drinking sugar-free coffee, try adding some fresh milk or oat milk. Using honey instead of sugar is also a very healthy choice.
