- Creating more affordable, quality housing is one of the most pressing issues facing Chicago, as the city faces a massive, growing shortage of 120,000 affordable housing units in Chicago exists, a recent study by the DePaul Housing Institute reveals.
In response, Mayor Brandon Johnson’s Building Neighborhoods and Affordable Homes was created to provide homebuyer assistance across the city. It’s a $10 million solution to a $10 billion problem. Though the program is set to scale to $100 million a year over the next 10 years, there’s much work required to be able to tackle the problem.
