About Cabling Installation & Maintenance

Our mission: Bringing practical business and technical intelligence to today's structured cabling professionals

For more than 30 years, Cabling Installation & Maintenance has provided useful, practical information to professionals responsible for the specification, design, installation and management of structured cabling systems serving enterprise, data center and other environments. These professionals are challenged to stay informed of constantly evolving standards, system-design and installation approaches, product and system capabilities, technologies, as well as applications that rely on high-performance structured cabling systems. Our editors synthesize these complex issues into multiple information products. This portfolio of information products provides concrete detail that improves the efficiency of day-to-day operations, and equips cabling professionals with the perspective that enables strategic planning for networks’ optimum long-term performance.

Throughout our annual magazine, weekly email newsletters and 24/7/365 website, Cabling Installation & Maintenance digs into the essential topics our audience focuses on.

  • Design, Installation and Testing: We explain the bottom-up design of cabling systems, from case histories of actual projects to solutions for specific problems or aspects of the design process. We also look at specific installations using a case-history approach to highlight challenging problems, solutions and unique features. Additionally, we examine evolving test-and-measurement technologies and techniques designed to address the standards-governed and practical-use performance requirements of cabling systems.
  • Technology: We evaluate product innovations and technology trends as they impact a particular product class through interviews with manufacturers, installers and users, as well as contributed articles from subject-matter experts.
  • Data Center: Cabling Installation & Maintenance takes an in-depth look at design and installation workmanship issues as well as the unique technology being deployed specifically for data centers.
  • Physical Security: Focusing on the areas in which security and IT—and the infrastructure for both—interlock and overlap, we pay specific attention to Internet Protocol’s influence over the development of security applications.
  • Standards: Tracking the activities of North American and international standards-making organizations, we provide updates on specifications that are in-progress, looking forward to how they will affect cabling-system design and installation. We also produce articles explaining the practical aspects of designing and installing cabling systems in accordance with the specifications of established standards.

Tackling Maternal Health with Technology: Emagine Solutions’ Mission to Save Lives

Maternal health in the U.S. faces a critical crisis. With the country ranking as one of the most dangerous and expensive places in the developed world to give birth, the situation demands urgent solutions. Emagine Solutions Technology, led by Courtney Williams, is addressing this issue through innovative technology designed to make pregnancy safer, more affordable, and improve outcomes for both patients and providers.

Bridging the Gaps in Maternal Health

Emagine Solutions Technology combines three key innovations: the Journey Pregnancy app for patients, remote patient monitoring software for clinicians, and an FDA-cleared handheld ultrasound device compatible with smartphones and tablets. Together, these technologies are transforming the pregnancy care journey, enhancing communication between patients and healthcare providers while offering vital tools to monitor maternal health.

From Personal Experience to Global Impact

Courtney Williams’ journey into maternal health innovation began when her sister experienced a high-risk pregnancy. This personal experience revealed the dangers of pregnancy and motivated Williams to leave her corporate job in customer analytics and finance to address these challenges. Located in Arizona, one of the most dangerous states for maternal health, she recognized the urgent need for localized solutions that could also scale globally.

Building the Dream Team

Despite not having a background in healthcare, Williams relied on her strong networking skills and brought together a team of experts. Her co-founder, a tech professional with experience at Google and Siemens, spearheaded the engineering of the handheld ultrasound device. By assembling a robust advisory board and collaborating with medical device industry leaders, Williams ensured her vision was backed by both technological and healthcare expertise.

Prioritizing Solutions for Maximum Impact

The handheld ultrasound was Emagine’s first milestone. With over half the global population lacking access to radiology, this device addressed a crucial gap, enabling better monitoring of fetal development. Extensive research, supported by a National Science Foundation grant, helped refine the product based on provider feedback. The device earned FDA clearance, marking a significant step forward in democratizing access to essential healthcare tools.

However, it was Williams’ personal experience with pre-eclampsia during her pregnancy that inspired Emagine to expand its offerings. Recognizing the disconnect between patients and providers, the team developed the Journey Pregnancy app and remote monitoring tools to bridge this gap.

Empowering Patients Through Data

The Journey Pregnancy app provides pregnant individuals with tools to log key health metrics such as blood pressure, glucose levels, mood, and weight. Unlike many pregnancy apps focused on entertainment, this app emphasizes actionable health insights. Features include integration with wearable devices like Fitbits and blood pressure cuffs, real-time notifications for abnormal readings, and a virtual doula to answer questions.

By equipping patients with accessible data, the app empowers them to advocate for their health, ask better questions during appointments, and address issues proactively. This approach not only improves outcomes but also alleviates some of the burdens on overworked providers.

Scaling the Vision

Emagine’s technologies are already making an impact. Thousands of users have downloaded the app, and its blood pressure monitoring feature has provided critical alerts to patients, potentially saving lives. Clinics and federally qualified health centers are onboarding these tools, proving their value in real-world applications.

Funding Innovation Through Grants

Building a med-tech company requires significant funding, especially for regulatory compliance and software development. Williams strategically pursued non-dilutive funding through grants from organizations like the Department of Health and Human Services. This approach not only provided the necessary capital but also established credibility for the company’s innovations.

The Road Ahead

Emagine Solutions Technology is not just innovating—it’s saving lives. By focusing on scalable solutions that address real pain points in maternal health, the company is redefining how technology can support patients and providers alike. With a strong foundation, proven tools, and an unwavering commitment to maternal health, the future for Emagine Solutions and its mission looks brighter than ever.
