Application of Fluorescence Spectrometry to oil detection

Portable oil analyzer can be used to analyze fuels, oils, additives and other fluids in petrochemical, heavy-duty transportation, power plants, aerospace, crude oil extraction, navigation and other industries.

What is the application scenario

Analysis of oil sulphur content in Marine Marine fuel: Monitoring of sulphur content within the Sulphur Oxide Emission Control Area (SECA). Special Fuel Quality requirements Emission Control Areas exist in SOx Emission Control Areas (SOx ECA or SECA), which include ports and coastlines.

Petroleum refining industry: Determination of total sulfur in fuel oil and crude oil, or determination of impurities, oil quality analysis and trace metals in refining catalysts.

Oil refinery: Used in hydrofining units and blending systems.

Oil pipeline: used to judge the interface of oil products and determine the pollutants of oil storage tanks.

Wear element analysis: Accurate detection of additives containing Al, Si, P, S, Ca and Zn in various engine oils, oil, fuel oil and system lubricants. According to different element concentrations, determine the wear of metal machinery and the necessity of oil replacement.

Analysis of additives: Analysis of high quality lubricants (mixed according to special formulations of organic and metal additives) required for precision equipment under extreme temperatures and heavy loads.

Hydrocarbon analysis: Measurement of calcium, sulfur, magnesium, aluminum, phosphorus, silicon, chlorine, etc., at certain concentrations of hydrocarbons and aqueous solutions.

How does the instrument work

PeDX OIL+ Diesel Quick Sulfur Detector is an energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (EDXRF). The X-ray fluorescence spectrometer uses an X-ray source to generate an incident X-ray (a single X-ray) that excites the sample under test. Each element in the excited sample emits secondary X-rays (also called X-ray fluorescence), and the secondary X-rays emitted by different elements have specific energy properties. The detection system measures the energy and number of these emitted secondary X-rays. Software then converts this information into the types and amounts of various elements in the sample.

A standard X-ray fluorescence spectrometer usually consists of an X-ray light source, a filter system, a spectroscopy system, a detector, a signal processing system and a calculation system. Among them, the X-ray light source and the core components of the detector are also the source of analysis data.
