New children’s book "Spoons" by J. Corn is released, a heartwarming, gentle story about navigating grief, finding joy, and celebrating lost loved ones

“Spoons: A Family Story of Enduring Loss” by J. Corn has been released worldwide. This 56-page children’s book tells the delicate, tender story of the Spoon family as they grieve the loss of their beloved Grandma Spoon. Mom is feeling sad and the kids want to help!

As the Spoon children ask their mother questions, she uses the opportunity to teach the young “Spoonies” that they can miss their grandmother and celebrate her memory at the same time. As the Spoon family spends a day together, they pay tribute to Grandma Spoon by going ice skating, playing piano, making one of her favorite recipes, and sharing stories – all the while feeling Grandma Spoon’s loving presence.

This heartwarming tale serves as a way for parents and kids to talk about grief, teaching valuable lessons about happy memories and honoring legacy to people of all ages. By weaving memories of lost loved ones into daily life, talking about them with family, and engaging in activities that brought them joy, people can work their way through grief and find healing through an ongoing sense of connection.

Inspired by her own experiences with grief, including the loss of her mother at a young age and the loss of her husband many years later, the author shows that with courage, practice, and a willingness to be vulnerable, readers can find joy within their painful emotions. Corn shows how, when we recognize that joy and pain can coexist, we can also find a path toward peace and acceptance. She reminds readers that avoiding conversations about grief and loss makes them more difficult in the future, and highlights the love and trust found among family.

The story also shows the important role kids can play in helping their parents cope with loss. By sharing stories about the grandmother her children never met, Mom Spoon finds comfort in connecting the young Spoonies with Grandma’s memory and the joy they find in celebrating her favorite things.

This touching, educational story handles the topic of grief with grace, imparting valuable wisdom for parents and children alike as they navigate the complex emotions of losing a loved one.

Spoons: A Family Story of Enduring Loss (ISBN: 9781962987912) can be purchased through retailers worldwide, including Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The paperback retails for $17.99, and the ebook retails for $2.99. Review copies and interviews with the author are available upon request.

From the back cover:

Do you or someone in your family suffer from grief after losing a loved one? Do you wish you could feel the presence of your loved one? Meet the Spoon family who is dealing with the loss of their beloved “Grandma Spoon.” They learn they can remember and honor her in the simplest of ways – weaving her into their daily lives. Children can be heroes during the grieving process too, and they are in this story!

“Though we never truly overcome loss, we can keep our loved one’s memory alive through shared stories and experiences. Spoons reminds us of that.” - Hope for Bereaved, Inc.

About the author:

Throughout her life, J. Corn has dealt with grief: first losing her mom at a young age, then her husband leaving her a single mother of two, and most recently, her father. The grieving process has taught her the importance of talking about your loved ones after they’re gone. No one should suffer alone or in silence. Corn hopes that SPOONS will encourage families to share stories about their loved ones, even when it’s difficult. She and her children are active members of their community grief counseling center. SPOONS is Corn’s debut book.
