Scott Borgerson Calls for Greater Respect and Support for America's Truck Drivers

Veteran Maryland driver urges public to recognize trucking's role in keeping communities connected

ESSEX, MD, NY / ACCESS Newswire / October 7, 2025 / With over two decades on the road and more than two million accident-free miles, Maryland truck driver Scott Borgerson is speaking out about the critical role truckers play in America's economy and communities. Featured in a recent industry spotlight, Borgerson emphasized that truck driving is more than moving freight-it is a lifeline for families and businesses.

"When I'm hauling medical supplies, that could mean someone gets the care they need on time. Food shipments keep shelves stocked. It's not just cargo. It's community," said Borgerson.

The Backbone of Supply Chains

According to the American Trucking Associations, trucks move 72% of the nation's freight by weight. Without professional drivers, shelves would empty, hospitals would face shortages, and construction sites would stall.

Borgerson stresses that behind every shipment are people depending on timely and safe deliveries. "Respect the road, respect the load, respect the people," he says. "Do that, and you'll last in this business."

Safety, Mentorship, and Community

Borgerson has mentored younger drivers and high school students exploring careers in the trades. He also volunteers locally, using his truck to support food drives and participating in Wreaths Across America to honor veterans.

"Not every kid wants to sit in a classroom for four years. Some are wired to build, fix, or drive. I tell them those paths are just as valuable," Borgerson said.

His message comes at a time when the trucking industry faces a shortage of 80,000 drivers nationwide, a figure projected to grow if younger workers do not enter the field.

A Call to Action

Borgerson is urging the public to recognize and support the people behind the wheel:

  • Thank truck drivers when you see them.

  • Support legislation that improves working conditions and safety.

  • Encourage young people to consider careers in logistics, mechanics, and skilled trades.

  • Be patient and share the road safely.

"Truck drivers are part of the backbone of America's economy. Every highway connects people, and we're the ones making sure goods move to keep life moving," Borgerson explained.
