Therapreneur Amity Cooper Reveals Strategies for Embracing Technology in Mental Health on The Social Work Bubble Podcast

Amity Cooper, a seasoned entrepreneur and mental health professional, recently shared insights on integrating technology into therapy practices on The Social Work Bubble podcast. With a unique background spanning from fashion accessories to gourmet chocolate before entering the mental health field, Amity brings valuable perspectives for therapists looking to embrace digital tools and expand their impact.

In the episode, Amity challenged the common fear surrounding technology in therapy. She stated, “I don’t see it as competition. I see this as a partnership, a strategic partnership with technology. Technology is not going to take away our job, but people, clinicians, and business owners who don’t incorporate these new technological tools will be outpaced and underutilized because they’re behind the curve.”

Instead, Amity emphasized that technology can enhance therapists’ ability to serve clients effectively. She shared her insights on various digital tools, including telehealth platforms, mental health apps, and even virtual reality applications in therapy.

When discussing the integration of AI in mental health practices, Amity advised listeners to view it as a supportive tool. She said, “AI can be a friendly companion. It can offer you a different perspective and give you information you never would have access to before, helping you expand your reach.”

She also stressed the importance of meeting clients where they are in the digital age. “Our clients are using these technologies every single day,” Amity shared. “We have to meet our patients where they’re at.”

About Amity Cooper

Amity Cooper is a seasoned entrepreneur, trained mental health professional, and entrepreneurial coach.

For over 20 years, Amity has run a variety of businesses, from designing handbags to making and manufacturing gourmet chocolates, which has given her the knowledge and experience to help others start and run their own businesses. Now, as a trained therapist, equine-assisted psychotherapist, and Lifebook facilitator, she is focused on empowering other mental and behavioral health professionals to serve their clients without burning themselves out by becoming what she calls “therapreneurs.”

She does this through her professional development company Clinical Career Collective (C3) and her Do This First 7-Day Bootcamp by not only teaching therapreneurs how to run their own businesses, but also how to embrace new, emerging technology in this post-pandemic world so they can better help the people they serve.

Amity hosted the virtual event Virtually Unlimited… The Healing Entrepreneurship Summit (with Mike Michalowicz as the keynote speaker) where she and other professionals spoke about the advantages of adapting new technologies for a modern mental health practice.

A lover of travel, Amity splits her time between Denver, Colorado and San Diego, California with her husband, two kids, two horses, and their English Shepherd, Beau.
