PHINIA launches first-to-market technology designed to reduce emissions and enhance fuel efficiency for Kohler small off-highway diesel engines

  • PHINIA debuts first-to-market electronically-controlled compact diesel injection system – CR350 – for Kohler Engines’ KSD off-highway engine (small diesel < 19kW)
  • The cost-effective common rail solution is designed to support customers in meeting emission regulations and improving fuel efficiency
  • The compact design of the CR350 and its integrated electronic control system meet unique emission regulation requirements for small off-highway applications

PHINIA Inc. (NYSE: PHIN), a leader in premium fuel systems, electrical systems, and aftermarket solutions, has launched the first electronically-controlled, low pressure common rail injection system for compact diesel engines used in off-highway applications with Kohler Engines. This partnership marks a significant step forward in industry efforts to improve fuel economy and comply with evolving emissions standards.

The CR350 system is a common rail system that can run up to 350 bar fuel pressure and is designed specifically for use in small off-highway diesel engines. Following intensive research, development to prepare this technology for the market took just 14 months. This rapid timeline underscores PHINIA’s commitment to engineering excellence and its drive toward sustainable solutions.

Engineered to comply with emissions regulations, including EU Stage V, EPA Tier 4, and China Stage 4 legislation, the CR350 system integrates seamlessly with the Kohler KSD diesel engine. This collaboration provides a paradigm shift in the off-highway vehicles. By incorporating advanced electronic control unit mechanisms, the CR350 system optimizes fuel delivery, resulting in reduced emissions and improved fuel efficiency of up to 7%*.

The compact design and integrated electronic injection system make the CR350 system ideal for a range of off-highway applications, from forklifts and generators to tractors and belt loaders.

“As worldwide efforts to produce greener alternatives increase, we are excited to be a part of the solution,” says Todd Anderson, Chief Technology Officer, PHINIA Inc. “While electric engines present one avenue for reducing emissions, they are not universally suitable for all applications. The CR350 bridges a gap between operational continuity and sustainability, engineered to facilitate reduced emissions in compliance with global standards while remaining cost effective.”

*Based on comparison testing performed by Kohler with machines equipped with engines having the same power and duty cycle.
