Hermitage Bay, Antigua

Hermitage Bay, Antigua

Now a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the much-loved Antiguan property sets a clear ambition to be the best hotel in the Caribbean. The relaunch draws on the hands-on expertise of the owners and vision behind Puente Romano Marbella and Marbella Club (members of Leading Hotels of the World) and Nobu Hotel Ibiza, Nobu Hotel Marbella, and Nobu Hotel Marrakech, and the soon-to-open Nobu Barbuda, with management by Luxury Hotel Partners.

Since acquiring the property, Daniel Shamoon has focused on every stage of the guest experience. This reopening brings sharper service, refurbished accommodation and new guest experiences while keeping the soulful Caribbean charm that travellers return for each year. He said: "With the expertise we’ve developed through our international properties and the Small Luxury Hotels of the World community, we have gently reimagined this much-loved hotel into a world-class destination. We have refreshed accommodation, dining, entertainment and activities to reflect our holistic approach to each stay."

World-class training

The investment has started with people. Over the past year, team members have completed in-depth training in Europe and on-island. Staff travelled to properties such as Puente Romano Marbella to work alongside experienced colleagues at global names including Nobu and Cipriani, refining skills in gastronomy and mixology. Experts from Puente Romano Marbella and Nobu Hotels also delivered workshops and masterclasses in Antigua. The team now numbers almost 160, many with more than a decade of service. Led on-site by General Manager Rachel Browne, who has guided the hotel for 18 years, they pair local warmth with new international standards.

Rachel Browne, General Manager, said: "I have welcomed guests here for nearly two decades and many return year after year. They arrive to familiar faces and thoughtful details that show we know them well. The hotel has been fully refurbished, yet the soul remains the same. We have not lost our essence."

Complete refurbishment

All 30 villa suites have been remodelled to balance interior style with generous outdoor living and wide sea views. The renovated Hillside Pool Villa Suites and Garden Pool Villa Suites each have private pools to further enhance the guest privacy and comfort.

Wellbeing has been strengthened with new therapies and rituals inspired by island botanicals, while the signature spa has moved to a calm beachfront setting, with treatment rooms facing the sea, creating an unforgettable wellness experience.

New guest experiences

This season introduces new ways to experience the islands. A dedicated 100-foot vintage schooner is now available for Hermitage Bay guests, sailing to quiet snorkelling spots by day and setting out for unhurried sunset voyages in the evening. Guests may take the helm of this historic yacht and sail through the bay in Antigua, creating a story to share for years to come. Private beach picnics, prepared by the hotel’s chefs, can be arranged in secluded coves.

A fully equipped 50-foot fishing boat offers private and shared charters for inshore and offshore sport fishing, with the chance to land anything from local snapper to tuna.

Helicopter journeys to Barbuda pair aerial views with lunch at Nobu Barbuda and time on Princess Diana Beach. Complimentary non-motorised water sports, private island-hopping by boat and guided land tours, including visits to Antigua’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites, can be tailored to each stay.

Enhanced dining

Dining carries a clear Caribbean focus. Daily dishes and tasting menus highlight local produce, the resort’s own garden harvests, the day’s catch and island spices. The new Beach Club restaurant, set by the water with live music, offers the catch of the day from lobster to mahi-mahi cooked on the grill. Live music continues from day to night, from steel pan to piano and reggae, setting an easy pace for lunch and dinner.

Adding further choice, a daily omakase experience becomes a highlight each afternoon as the Tree Bar transforms into an omakase counter. Fresh sushi is prepared by a professional in-house chef.

Sustainability

Hermitage Bay continues to care for its setting and community. The resort is Green Globe certified and supports local schools and hospitals through donations and partnerships, alongside water recycling, solar power and waste-reduction programmes. These commitments sit alongside training and career development designed to keep talent on island.

A new era

Daniel Shamoon said: "We are bringing the European flavour to Hermitage Bay. Hospitality is about how a stay makes you feel. Our significant investment, international vision and in-depth training give our Hermitage Bay team the confidence to deliver world-class service that feels natural and Caribbean. The hotel keeps its Antiguan soul while meeting the international standards our guests expect."
