Every mDL is issued only after direct authentication with the user’s state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), ensuring the identity data is verified at the source before it ever reaches a digital wallet. Combined with adherence to global standards like ISO/IEC 18013-5 and ISO 23220, which govern secure storage and transmission of identity data, mDLs represent the most trustworthy and modern form of ID verification available today.

When an mDL is available, users can verify their identity with just a few taps—eliminating frustrations of camera positioning, poor lighting, or unclear images—resulting in a significantly faster, more intuitive experience. If an mDL is not present, Vouched’s platform automatically transitions to high-resolution capture and verification of government-issued IDs through advanced video-based scanning.
