Community Health Systems Releases the 2025 Community Impact Report

Community Health Systems, Inc. (the “Company”) (”CHS”) (NYSE: CYH) released its 2025 Community Impact Report today. In addition to spotlighting the Company’s actions to deliver quality healthcare, strengthen its workforce, and provide vital economic benefit for the communities it serves, this year’s report also celebrates the Company’s 40th anniversary.

Community Health Systems began in 1985 as a company solely focused on small rural hospitals and has since evolved into a vibrant operator of comprehensive health systems offering a broad range of services – both in and outside of the hospital setting. Over the span of four decades, the healthcare industry has experienced significant transformation.

“Technologies like robotic surgery and advanced imaging, telehealth and virtual care, electronic health records, and AI – all of which were unimaginable 40 years ago – are now a part of everyday practice leading to earlier diagnoses, more effective treatment options, and better outcomes,” said Tim Hingtgen, chief executive officer of Community Health Systems. “CHS has remained at the forefront every step of the way, delivering quality care, innovation, and value for the people and communities we serve.”

Kevin Hammons, president and chief financial officer, added, “Looking forward, we expect the pace of change to accelerate with even more opportunity on the horizon. CHS is committed to being a healthcare leader in all of our communities, which is made possible by our investments, strategies, and the exceptional healthcare delivered by more than 57,000 caregivers and colleagues who work every day to fulfill our purpose of helping people get well and live healthier.”

Notable achievements outlined in the 2025 report include:

  • More than 14.7 million patient encounters across 1,000+ sites of care
  • $1.2 billion provided in charity care, uninsured discounts and other uncompensated care
  • $5.4 billion funded for payroll and benefits to support employees and create significant downstream economic impact
  • $394 million paid in income, property, sales and other taxes
  • $360 million spent on capital investments to expand access to healthcare, enhance services, modernize facilities, and upgrade medical technologies

The report also includes information about the Company’s safety and quality practices, innovative partnerships improving patient care, financial assistance programs, employee resources, data protection, and disaster preparedness and response.

Also included in this year’s report are stories about patients whose lives were positively impacted by the care they received at CHS affiliated health systems, including the story of a baby who was born in the car on the way to the hospital and wasn’t breathing and a man who received life-saving treatment after a heart attack while vacationing on a remote island.

As CHS celebrates its 40th anniversary, the report also features some of the 800 employees and physicians who have worked for their CHS affiliated health system or the corporate office for 40 years or more, including a 74-year old registered nurse who still works part-time in the neonatal intensive care unit at a CHS hospital in Arkansas, a maintenance engineer who has worked at his Alabama hospital since the age of 16, and a pharmacist who works in the Missouri hospital that saved his life when he was an infant.
