Out of this commitment, Christian developed the Defensive Estate Plan: a groundbreaking nine-part legal strategy designed to replicate the essential rights of marriage for LGBT families in Texas. This comprehensive plan includes critical estate planning documents that secure healthcare, property, and legal rights, along with codicils to amend existing estate plans for full protection.

Building on this work, Christian also created Agreed Parental Adjudications to provide swift, cost-effective legal solutions for LGBT parents in Travis County and Austin, Texas, allowing two-mom and two-dad households to formalize parental rights without unnecessary delay. Additionally, she has refined Second-Parent Adoptions for same-sex parents and families of all gender identities, ensuring children are fully protected under Texas law.

Today, Christian Smith is one of the few — if not the only — LGBT family law attorneys in Austin offering such a comprehensive Defensive Package to safeguard LGBT families' rights against future legal uncertainty.

Christian and her wife have personally implemented these protections for their own family. Now, her mission is to extend the same security and peace of mind to LGBT families across Texas.
