HackerNoon Decentralizes 100,000+ Tech Blogs with Sia Foundation

HackerNoon and Sia Foundation partner to strengthen secure, censorship-resistant storage for 100,000+ archived stories and 2,000+ new articles added monthly.

-- HackerNoon, the community-driven tech publication, is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Sia Foundation to back up its entire publishing archive on Sia’s cryptography-powered, decentralized cloud infrastructure.

As part of this collaboration, HackerNoon has already stored more than 100,000+ articles on the Sia network—one of the world’s most secure cloud storage systems by design—and will continue to add over 2,000 new stories each month.

This partnership advances HackerNoon’s commitment to independent publishing by ensuring that content remains permanently accessible, censorship-resistant, and free from centralized control. It also supports the Sia Foundation’s mission to give individuals full ownership and control of their data.

Building on previous integrations with protocols like Arweave, HackerNoon is deepening its investment in decentralized infrastructure. By leveraging multiple protocols, the platform is reducing reliance on any single provider and moving closer to long-term resilience for independent tech journalism.

More About the Integration

HackerNoon’s integration with Sia introduces an automated, decentralized backup system for its publishing archive. All existing stories—more than 100,000—and over 2,000 new stories each month will be stored securely and redundantly on the Sia network. These stories are contributed by more than 50,000 independent authors.

Readers and developers can verify and retrieve this content through the decentralized Sia network. The public transaction details for the entire decentralized archive will be accessible at sia.hackernoon.com, a subdomain that will remain live as long as the Sia Foundation continues to support the archive.

This initiative furthers two essential goals:

  • Advancing Web3 infrastructure through meaningful, real-world use of decentralized storage.
  • Protecting the future of independent tech journalism from takedowns, censorship, and platform lock-in.

#DecentralizePublishing: Why It Matters

Today’s internet is dominated by centralized platforms that control how content is discovered, monetized, and preserved. Traditional cloud storage, while convenient, can expose publishers to censorship, data loss, and single points of failure—risks that disproportionately affect independent creators and media outlets.

HackerNoon is no stranger to these challenges. In 2018, the platform cut ties with Medium Corp’s proprietary software in a move toward greater independence. While self-hosting offers more control, it still depends on centralized web infrastructure vulnerable to legal and technical disruption.

By partnering with Sia, HackerNoon continues its mission to create a more open and censorship-resistant internet—one where no single entity can erase a story or suppress its impact.

"When you publish with HackerNoon, you’re not just writing for today—you’re contributing to a permanent, censorship-resistant record of internet history,” said HackerNoon Founder & CEO David Smooke. “By decentralizing our archive with Sia, we’re ensuring that no corporation, government, or glitch can erase the voices of our contributors."

Trustless, Secure Decentralization: Meet Sia

The Sia network is a blockchain-based marketplace powered by data providers and data renters for fully private, secure, and decentralized cloud storage. Sia’s mainnet launched in 2015 with no downtime in its entire history. Sia is supported by the Sia Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

Unlike traditional cloud providers, Sia’s infrastructure offers cryptographic guarantees of access, integrity, and neutrality.

“Sia was built on a simple premise – own your keys, own your data. Everyone has a fundamental right to digital privacy. In partnership with HackerNoon, we leverage Sia’s blockchain-backed integrity to guarantee uptime, discoverability, and consistent access,” said Nate Maninger, President of the Sia Foundation.

Together, HackerNoon and the Sia Foundation are ensuring that digital publishing remains in the hands of creators—not corporations.
