New Study Finds Link Between Social Media Use and Depression

Longview, WA (Newsworthy.ai) Saturday May 20, 2023 @ 9:00 AM Central —

A new study has found a link between social media use and depression. Researchers analyzed data from over 2,000 adults and found that those who spent more time on social media were more likely to experience symptoms of depression. The more time people spent on social media, the more likely they were to report feeling sad, empty, and hopeless,

The study also found that social media can be addictive and lead to compulsive behavior, which can exacerbate feelings of depression. For some people, social media becomes a way to escape their problems, but it can worsen things.

While the study does not prove that social media use directly causes depression, it does suggest a strong correlation between the two. People must be aware of the potential risks associated with social media use, especially regarding mental health.

Depression is a severe mental illness that affects millions of people worldwide. It can be treated with therapy, medication, or both. If you or someone you know is struggling with depression, it's essential to seek help from a healthcare professional.

Incorporating Self-Care Practices Can Mitigate Depression Risk Associated with Social Media Use: Self-care practices such as mindfulness, meditation, and exercise can be effective in reducing the negative impact of social media on mental health. By engaging in activities that promote well-being, individuals can build resilience and reduce their risk of depression.
