What Concerns Can Rhinoplasty Address? Philadelphia Plastic Surgeon Weighs In

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States - 12-13-2022 (PR Distribution™) -

Award-winning Philadelphia plastic surgeon Joseph DiBello, MD, FACS discusses the many concerns rhinoplasty (or a “nose job”) can address, including both aesthetic imperfections and breathing complications.

Philadelphia, PA – Joseph DiBello, MD, FACS, a Philadelphia plastic surgeon with over thirty years of experience, emphasizes the profound effects rhinoplasty can have on a patient’s life. Colloquially known as a “nose job,” rhinoplasty is among the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed throughout the country, says Dr. DiBello, who adds that the ultimate goal of the procedure is to restructure the shape, size, and profile of the nose. “Rhinoplasty is extremely customizable,” he explains. “A highly qualified plastic surgeon will tailor the surgery to suit the unique anatomy of a patient’s face.” Dr. DiBello states that he utilizes both the “open” and “closed” rhinoplasty techniques, depending on the needs of the patient.

Dr. DiBello states that when in the hands of a qualified provider, rhinoplasty can not only enhance the profile, but also correct functional issues. Patients may seek the surgery to improve the aesthetic quality of the nose, to ease problems with breathing or congestion, or to achieve a combination of these goals. Below, Dr. DiBello discusses the myriad of ways this versatile procedure can benefit patients.

According to Dr. DiBello, a professionally performed rhinoplasty can:

  • Create a natural, more flattering nose shape
  • Decrease or increase the shape of the nostrils and/or tip
  • Straighten a crooked nose
  • Reduce humps or bumps
  • Improve the symmetry of the face
  • Create an appearance more in tune with the patient’s cultural background (e.g., African-American rhinoplasty, Asian rhinoplasty)

Meanwhile, the procedure can also address breathing problems, namely a deviated septum. This concern occurs when the septum, or the cartilage and tissue layer that separates the nasal passages, leans into either the left or right side of the nasal cavity and makes breathing more difficult. “Certain surgical methods can open up the passage to facilitate proper airflow,” Dr. DiBello continues, “which is important, considering the result of reducing the size of the nose also reduces the size of the air passages.”

Ultimately, Dr. DiBello encourages patients who wish to correct any of the above cosmetic or functional issues to reach out to a board-certified plastic surgeon. An experienced physician, he explains, will carefully evaluate the patient’s needs and create a personalized treatment plan that can address these concerns.
