The lawyer mentions that sometimes, because of emotions, people say things that they should not say. Threats of harm may be taken very seriously in New Jersey. Terroristic threats such as pointing a gun at someone’s head or brandishing a knife in someone’s direction can be charged with a crime of terroristic threats.

Furthermore, the criminal defense attorney says that terroristic threats carry penalties of 3-5 years in jail, a fine of up to $75,000, and a probationary period. However, if the threats were made during a state of emergency, it may be punishable with 5-10 years in jail, a fine of up to $250,000, and a probationary period.
