#Standing4BlackGirls Coalition to Hold Annual Rally and March Against Rape Culture and Sexual Violence

By: PRLog
In 2023, the L.A. City Civil, Human Rights and Equity Department report concluded that although Black women are only 4.3% of the city's population, they accounted for 25 – 33 % of female domestic and sexual violence victims. Further, Black girls and women represent approximately 40% of sex trafficking victims in the U.S. and L.A., highlighting the epidemic of gender-based violence that Black women face and the urgent need for targeted prevention, mental health, and community resources.

LOS ANGELES - Oct. 8, 2025 - PRLog -- The Women's Leadership Project's sixth annual #Standing4blackgirls Rally and March Against Rape Culture and Sexual Violence will be held on Saturday, October 25th from 11:30-1:30 in Leimert Park. The action will focus on Black women and Black girl survivors' voices and advocacy, while calling on City Council District 8 and Destination Crenshaw to create a Black girl and Black queer centered youth space in commemoration of teen homicide victim Tioni Theus.

The coalition welcomes Black and BIPOC women's and LGBTQ+ organizations to table and/or speak at the event. The event will occur in front of KAOS Network.

While violence against many ethnic and racial groups has declined nationwide, violence against Black women has skyrocketed.  In the City of Los Angeles, Black women comprise 4.3% of the population, yet account for 25%-35% of all female violence victims.  According to the City Civil and Human Rights and Equity department, from 2011-2022, Black women accounted for one-third (32.85%) of female homicides and nearly a quarter (22%) of all female rape victims. From 2021-2022, Black women were nearly one-third (28.2%) of all missing women. In addition, Black women are 2.5 times more likely to be killed by an intimate partner than are white women, with gun violence being the leading form of homicide.
