Driving Successful Lives Seeks Donated Wheelchair-Accessible Van for Man with Disabilities

A used retrofitted van could change a life — and DSL is ready to make it happen

(PRUnderground) April 17th, 2025

Driving Successful Lives (DSL), a Michigan-based national nonprofit, is urgently seeking the donation of a gently used, wheelchair-accessible van to support a local man with disabilities whose current vehicle is no longer safe for use.

The man’s existing van has over 200,000 miles, severe rust damage, and holes in the floor. Despite his perseverance, the van’s frequent breakdowns and costly repairs have made it nearly impossible for him to get around.

“If you saw his current van—with the rusted-out frame, holes in the floor, and constant mechanical issues—you’d understand his desperate need,” said Mark Maupin, Director of Driving Successful Lives. “A donated van in usable condition, even if it needs a few repairs, could completely restore his independence and dignity.”

DSL is committed to covering some of the necessary repairs to ensure any donated van is roadworthy and fully accessible. This appeal reflects the organization’s ongoing mission to empower individuals through donated vehicles and meaningful community programs.

This is not the first time DSL has stepped in to help those with mobility needs. In a recent effort, the nonprofit funded repairs for a disabled senior’s hand-control van, enabling him to drive again and reclaim his autonomy.

Beyond vehicle assistance, DSL’s impact is widespread:

Over 500 turkeys were donated to struggling families during Thanksgiving 2024.

Through its Real Estate Donation Program, DSL has repurposed abandoned and neglected properties to provide housing for veterans, homeless individuals, and recovering addicts.

You Can Help
If you own a wheelchair-accessible van in decent condition and no longer need it, your donation could dramatically improve someone’s quality of life. DSL makes the donation process easy and meaningful.

About Driving Successful Lives

Driving Successful Lives’ mission is to help raise funds and improve the lives of veterans, homeless families, children, those with addictions while helping donors generate a tax deduction, often with property or vehicles they might no longer want.

Every time a person gives to the charity of their choice it may also create a tax benefit for them. Car donations, real estate donations or money donated to non-profit institutions throughout the tax year may be tax deductible which means that they could make a positive difference for people while reducing the amount of income taxes they pay. Contributing to charities can be a very convenient way to reduce taxes and help others.
