Wickedly Awesome Plans Opening of Georgetown, SC Boat Club and Rentals – Seeks Community Feedback

Community-driven boat club in Georgetown, SC aims to make boating more affordable and fun - seeking local feedback before launching.

(PRUnderground) August 23rd, 2025

Wickedly Awesome today announced plans to launch the Georgetown Boat Club & Rentals, a new community-driven initiative designed to make boating more accessible, affordable, and hassle-free for residents and visitors in Georgetown, South Carolina.

The concept, led by local entrepreneur Sean Hakes and a group of passionate boating enthusiasts, was born from a simple realization: boat ownership is often expensive, exhausting, and impractical for many families. From maintenance and insurance to storage fees and seasonal headaches, owning a boat can quickly overshadow the joy of being on the water.

“Our vision with Georgetown Boat Club is simple,” said Sean Hakes. “We’re friends who love boating and want to share that experience with our community. Before we go all in, we want to know the people of Georgetown and the surrounding areas behind it and share our passion for being out on the water.”

The Georgetown Boat Club will operate as a membership-based service, giving members access to a fleet of boats without the financial and logistical burdens of ownership. The team is currently conducting a feasibility study and has launched a community survey to gather feedback on:

  • Membership interest and preferred options (individual, family, seasonal).
  • Types of boats residents would like to access (fishing boats, pontoons, deck boats, etc.).
  • Price ranges and features that would provide the best value.
  • Interest in additional services such as boating lessons, fishing charters, and community events.

“We believe this model can open the door for more people to experience the Lowcountry lifestyle — fishing, family outings, or simply enjoying a sunset cruise — without the barriers of ownership,” added Hakes.

The Georgetown Boat Club will be based in Georgetown, SC, with easy access to the surrounding waterways. Pawleys Island residents and visitors are also welcome to join.

Community members are encouraged to share their input by participating in the online survey.
