Commonwealth Community Trust Sponsors Individuals with Disabilities Through Innovative Charitable Fund Award

Commonwealth Community Trust continues its mission of empowerment by providing critical financial assistance to individuals with disabilities across the United States through its Charitable Fund Award program.

Richmond, VA, January 20, 2025 Commonwealth Community Trust (CCT), a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities, is proud to sponsor the Charitable Fund Award. The program offers assistance with the purchase of equipment or services to U.S. residents who demonstrate a financial need, advancing CCT’s legacy of compassionate support.

Since its establishment in 2009, the Charitable Fund Award (CFA) has provided $1,181,628 in awards for children and adults with a disability. Established in 2009 to support CCT’s mission of helping people with a disability improve their quality of life, this program provides life-changing resources to those who meet the poverty guidelines and have a disability. In 2024 alone, CFA distributed $86,100 to 129 recipients through partnerships with 27 nonprofit and public service organizations.

“Our Charitable Fund Award is about more than financial assistance-it’s about creating opportunities and restoring dignity to individuals overcoming significant challenges,” said Joanne Marcus, President & CEO of Commonwealth Community Trust. “Each award is a testament to our unwavering commitment to enriching lives and empowering communities.”

Recipients of CFA awards have benefited from services and equipment, such as medical devices, assistive technologies, and mobility aids. The initiative underscores CCT’s mission to serve as a resource for individuals with disabilities and their families, aligning closely with the nonprofit’s overarching commitment to enriching lives nationwide.

One parent of a CFA recipient shared, “The support we received from Commonwealth Community Trust not only brought us peace of mind but also drastically improved my child’s daily life. This program is a lifeline for so many families like ours.”

In addition to the CFA program, CCT offers innovative pooled trust solutions tailored to provide long-term financial security for individuals with disabilities. Options such as the First Party PSNT and Settlement Preservation Pooled Trust reflect CCT’s dedication to empowering families with resources that ensure stability and peace of mind.

Established in 1990 by parents of children with disabilities and dedicated professionals, Commonwealth Community Trust has consistently prioritized client-centered services. The organization’s approach combines professional expertise with genuine empathy, creating a supportive framework for individuals and families navigating complex financial and personal challenges.

With a steadfast dedication to empowering vulnerable individuals, CCT works hand-in-hand with Capital First Trust Company, Inc., its selected trustee, to safeguard and manage trust assets.
