Association for the Treatment of Neuroplastic Symptoms Holds National Conference Sept. 28-30

Leading experts gather in Boulder, Colo., to explore new science for relieving nonstructural chronic pain and illness

BOULDER, CO, September 08, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Medical professionals, researchers, and mental health experts will explore the latest advances in diagnosing and treating non-structural pain and illness at the national conference of the Association for the Treatment of Neuroplastic Symptoms Sept. 28-30 in Boulder, Colo.

Neuroplastic symptoms are caused by stress-induced changes in nerve pathways in the brain, rather than by injury or illness. They include fibromyalgia, migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic back pain, many cases of long COVID, and dozens more conditions.

Nearly half of US adults have pain or illness that is either unexplained or is not responding as expected to treatment, according to results of a new national survey to be presented at the conference. It is likely that symptoms in a large majority of this group are neuroplastic.

"This is the first national survey of its kind ever done, and it addresses a large range of questions affecting 40% of people who see a doctor for symptoms," says Dr. David Clarke, president of the ATNS.

The conference will feature more than 40 leading experts in neuroplastic pain and illness. Unlike conditions caused by disease or injury, these are caused by changes in neural pathways that are learned in response to stress, trauma, and adversity — often starting in childhood. When these patterns are uncovered and understood, this knowledge can lead to healing without the need for invasive procedures or long-term medical treatment.

The ATNS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to ending the chronic pain epidemic by promoting awareness, diagnosis, and treatment of neuroplastic pain and illness. They support an evidence-based, biopsychosocial approach called Neuroplastic Recovery Therapy that is safer, more affordable, and more effective than traditional methods in treating chronic pain. With a focus on uncovering stress, trauma, and unrecognized emotion, patients are able to take control of their symptoms without drugs, surgery, or expensive treatments.

"Neuroplastic Recovery Therapy is the only treatment backed by gold standard science from randomized trials published in top medical journals like the American Medical Association Psychiatry journal," Dr. Clarke notes.

The conference will be held from 12 p.m. MDT Sunday, Sept. 28, to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 30 at the Boulder Jewish Community Center, located at 6007 Oreg Ave., Boulder, CO 80303. For media passes, contact info@symptomatic.me.
