Unraveling Exhibition Resonates at London Design Festival 2025, Confronting Art, Technology, and Boundaries

The Unraveling Art and Design Exhibition, an official partner event of London Design Festival 2025, was successfully launched online on September 16, 2025, accompanied by a global Opening Panel that drew audiences across continents. Organized by the international art and design platform NotYetArt (NYA), the exhibition presented an ambitious program that combined online gallery showcases with real-time dialogue among artists, professors, and curators.

As one of the highlighted LDF partner exhibitions, Unraveling explored the radical question: when materials, images, and systems are stripped back to their smallest “atoms,” does art still remain? Through immersive installations, digital media, and conceptual design, the exhibition sought to expose hidden textures and power dynamics, while envisioning new forms of expression for a digital and globalized era.

The opening event welcomed an engaged global audience to a Zoom livestream and online exhibition tour. Moderated by Tara of NotYetArt, the panel featured distinguished speakers including Binna Lee (Adjunct Parsons School of Design Professor) and Miaotian Sun (Representative from QIAA International Art Association). The discussion spanned artistic career development, the role of AI in creative practice, and the lived realities of artists navigating different cultural contexts worldwide.

Participating Artists

Selected from an international pool of submissions, Unraveling featured ten artists whose works reflect diverse cultural perspectives and interdisciplinary innovation:

  • Clarissa Kam – The Carnal Banal

  • Gabriela Vargas – Ancestral memory made visible

  • Kara Beth Rasure – Algopress (2025)

  • Kara Beth Rasure & Maxwell Fertik – Spiked Charcoal Soap (2025)

  • Nadienne Phua – Chronostasis

  • Ningyi Rui – Beneath the Skin

  • Val Xueyi Yang – In the folder

  • Yan Huo – Post-Nature

  • Yitong Chen – Embrace Flowing Heart

  • Zijie Xie – Herpower

Each work engaged with the exhibition’s theme by deconstructing material, memory, and identity—inviting viewers to contemplate how art can unravel, yet simultaneously reconstruct, meaning in today’s hybrid world.

The exhibition’s launch underscored its curatorial ambition and international scope. The strong turnout and active engagement during the opening panel highlighted Unraveling’s resonance with both the creative community and the wider public. By blending artistic experimentation with critical dialogue, the exhibition affirmed its place as a vital contribution to London Design Festival’s global platform.

As part of London Design Festival 2025—one of the world’s most influential design festivals attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually—Unraveling demonstrated the potential of cross-cultural dialogue and interdisciplinary practice, offering a compelling vision of art’s evolving role in the 21st century.
